The 6’3 guard ranks as the No. 9 prospect in the 2023 MD/DC rankings and will be due for a bump as he caught fire this summer on the UAA Circuit with Team Thrill and contributed in major role helping his team to the UAA Championship.
Williams’ visits:
Clemson-Sept 2nd
DePaul-Sept 8
Syracuse-Sept 16th
Wake Forest-Sept 23rd
VCU-Sept 30th (Unofficial)
LSU-Oct 22nd
Power five programs came calling in June after a productive showing at DMV Live, but used the July live periods as confirmation that he could be a contributor at the high major level. While he isn’t a pure point guard, Williams has the ability to run the show for stints in a half-court setting. My assumption for Williams at the next level will to play a balanced role of on and off-ball duties.
His shooting is the area of his game that has improved most over the past six months. His release has become quicker and more fluid. The confidence that he now shoots with is evident. He has always been a threat from the mid-range in the pull-up variety operating off the bounce, but now he’s coming off pin-downs, rising up for shots off in dribble handoffs when his defender sags off or simply converting on catch-and-shoots at a better rate from deep.
Even with improved shooting, his approach as a slasher hasn’t changed. If Williams can get downhill and get to the rim, he’s a good finisher with either hand. He uses craft to avoid rotating shot-blockers or draws contact to earn a visit to the free-throw stripe.
Prep Hoops will monitor his decision process closely, but whatever program receives the commitment from Williams is getting a productive two-way guard.
