The best returner to the city, Ketraleus Aldridge Ketraleus Aldridge 6'4" | SF Highland Park | 2023 State KS (pictured), is criss-crossing the nation with Bradley Beal Elite. Jack Bachelor Jack Bachelor 6'0" | CG Washburn Rural | 2023 State KS is on the road with Marcus Denmon Elite. But a lot of the other top players, plus some up-and-comers, have been seen locally this month, giving a preview of a great season of basketball in the Capital City.
Here are some Topekans who have stood out this summer:
Mister Cameron, 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, Hayden, Topeka United:
This slick point guard has been on the Prep Hoops radar for two years now, and he is showing this summer just why. He has great vision and the ability to find teammates with the ball. He is a smooth distributor who can help everyone around him be more effective offensively. After a couple of years of experience as a varsity sub at Topeka High, he will suit up for Hayden next fall and should have a great opportunity to put his talents to use.
Brennan Dodge, 6-foot-1 guard, 2024, Shawnee Heights, SSA Hoops Elite:
Dodge shouldered a big load for the T-Birds as a sophomore. He took a lot of shots and was the team’s offensive focal point. Now with a talented cast around him with SSA, Dodge is playing a well-rounded game in which he distributes and tries to penetrate to pass more frequently. But when the opportunity presents itself, he can still heat up and change the game with his ability to score on the drive or catch-and-shoot.
Jayden Moore, 6-foot guard, 2024, Shawnee Heights, Topeka United:
A tough point guard, Moore shows why he’s also a good football player when he pushes the ball up the floor and drives into traffic. He finishes through contact and draws a lot of fouls. He is a slick handler and passer of the ball. Off the ball, he can float to open spots and knock down the shot from the outside too.
Jacorey Robinson, 6-foot-4 forward, 2025, Highland Park, SSA Hoops Elite:
While Aldridge will be the man in Topeka this year, Robinson might be the biggest riser. After playing an important role for the Scots as a freshman, he is blowing up this summer. After playing strictly in the paint for the high school, he is facing the basket and handling the ball on the perimeter more for his club team. As he matures, he is becoming more explosive, showing off his athleticism on two-handed dunks and by defending guards in the open floor. Robinson is a swooping, gliding athlete who has been dominant for SSA this summer.
Jaret Sanchez, 6-foot-3 forward, 2025, Shawnee Heights, SSA Hoops Elite:
Like Robinson, Sanchez saw some varsity action last year, and he’s a game changing shooter for SSA this summer. Sanchez is big and has great distance. That makes him really hard for defenses to shut down. He floats around the perimeter in the half-court set, and in transition he finds openings to receive a pass and pull the trigger. He is deadly accurate and capable of deciding a game with multiple 3-pointers per game. He might develop into an offensive threat for the T-Birds to take some of the focus off Dodge.
Bryson Thrasher, 6-foot guard, 2024, Topeka High, Topeka United:
Trasher is a scorer. He is scrappy and tenacious and can put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. He is a flashy driver with a quick cross over to create space to penetrate. On a very talented Topeka United team, Thrasher stands out for his ability to create produce points. He is sneaky athletic, tough and competitive. After playing a big role for a young Topeka High team last year, Thrasher is showing on the club circuit that he belongs with the top-level talent.
