After taking a look at some of the top veterans in the Capital City, let’s look at some of the young risers who are showing what they can do this summer:
Tamir Anderson Tamir Anderson 6'3" | SF Highland Park | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-3 forward, 2024, Highland Park, Topeka United:
Anderson is a big wing who can change a game with his outside shooting. But he’s more than just a shooter. He can handle the ball and has good vision, capable of making nice passes up the floor and slick passes in the paint. He gets a lot of transition buckets. On the drive, he uses his size to protect the ball and get shots off in the lane. Defensively, he gets his hands on a lot of passes and blocks shots all the way out to the arc.
Cooper Colbach, 6-foot guard, 2024, Hayden, Marcus Denmon Elite:
A deadly shooter and physical defender, Colbach will be looking to carve out a role for the Wildcats as a transfer. He isn’t a greedy shooter, but he will knock it own when left alone. He passes the ball unselfishly and can handle it in the open floor. He looks ahead to find teammates in transition. Colbach is solidly built and isn’t afraid to stick his nose in for a rebound or loose ball.
Da’Mykel Hales, 5-foot-11 guard, 2024, Topeka High, 94×50 Elite:
Hales is a deceptive athlete who can play point or on the wing. He’s bouncy and clever on defense, making a nuisance of himself by harassing ball handlers and getting in passing lanes. He is a nice ball handler who passes ahead and finds open shooters. He can get to the bucket too.
Caleb NooNoo, 6-foot-5 forward, 2024, Topeka West, Topeka United:
Still developing his feel for game, this guy has ‘riser’ written all over him. NooNoo is an athlete. He can really rise and make impressive plays around the rim. He is a long and instinctive shot blocker who can run and chase down plays. He is solidly built and ready to defend in the paint. The Chargers were a veteran team last season. They will be looking for a new cast to step up, and NooNoo should be ready for the opportunity.
Mikey Williams, 5-foot-11 guard, 2025, Highland Park, SSA Hoops Elite:
A lanky guard, Williams can play the point or off the ball. He sees the floor and plays with intelligence. Williams has a diverse skill set and complements his teammates by doing the little things to help the team. His length and anticipation makes him a tough defender. Highland Park is rich with guards and Williams will be in the mix as a sophomore because he can do whatever is needed.
Jamon Wilson, 5-foot-8 guard, 2025, Highland Park, SSA Hoops Elite:
Wilson is a classic point man, leading with high IQ, vision and a high motor. He makes good entry passes and draws defenders to dish to open shooters. But perhaps the skill Wilson demonstrated most in summer play was his ability to rebound from the point guard spot. Wilson is smart and efficient with the ball.
