Travel is mainly the concern which is unfortunate as there are many good players in both that the casual person does not get to see. Here are some of the teams that might be in the mix.
Dixie has been phenomenal this summer as you are seeing some known names make noise and some new names emerge. Really impressed with what Jordan Roberts Jordan Roberts 6'0" | PG Dixie | 2024 State UT is doing with the ball in his hands as he is feeding everyone and Dixie has some guards that can really hurt you. Kyle Lemke Kyle Lemke 6'9" | C Dixie | 2024 State UT is solidifying himself as a true big that has D1 power potential. Kyle is dunking everything and he is also running the floor clearing a lot of space. John Southwick John Southwick 6'3" | SG Utah Prep | 2025 State #234 Nation UT is a lot of what we expected from him and he is shooting the ball better than we thought. He could be the big piece to put them over the top again.
Snow Canyon has al the right pieces to run it back. Lyman Simmons Lyman Simmons 6'10" | PF RSL Academy | 2023 State UT is good and he is just expanding his game more and more by increasing his shooting. Owen Mackay Owen Mackay 6'5" | CG Snow Canyon | 2024 State UT is a solid wing that should get some major consideration when it comes to his consideration. Bowen Hammer Bowen Hammer 6'8" | CG Fairmont Prep Academy | 2023 CA-S is legit and his game is super solid. Not too many players in the South that can stop him.
Sky View has a solid roster that will give teams trouble, especially with Logan Deal Logan Deal 6'6" | SF Sky View | 2023 State UT . This kid is strong and skilled.
Ridgeline is super tough and they did lose a few players but they return Jagger Francom Jagger Francom 6'8" | C Ridgeline | 2024 State UT and Carson Cox Carson Cox 6'4" | CG Ridgeline | 2024 State UT who both had great showings last season. Ridgeline always has a team that is ready to compete.
The one wildcard this season will be Layton Christian Academy. LCA Eagles will not only play a 3A region schedule but will enter the playoffs in 4A which is what a lot of schools do out of state but for Utah this is something very new. LCA is a private school that brings in kids from all over the country. Souleymane Barro Souleymane Barro 6'7" | SF Layton Christian | 2023 State UT is a really good prospect with length. Tyrese Lacey Tyrese Lacey 5'10" | PG Layton Christian | 2023 State UT is an under-valued PG that would be getting a lot of hype if he played in a traditional 5A or 6A school.
This will be a very interesting 4A playoff run for some of these teams.
