August is only a week and a half away as the upcoming 2022-23 academic school year is approaching. Players have had a strong summer and should end July on a nigh note, especially in South Jersey. Here are the South Jersey prospects who could rise up the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id="1402094" first="David" last="Gheysens"], 6’3 SG Moorestown 2023

Gheysens has made an impact this summer with Team Final Black 17U as he influences the offense in a number of different ways. The 6’3 guard has a nice handle, which he uses to get to the basket and finish. Gheysens is more than just a slasher as he has a nice release on his jumper and can knock down open jumpers from behind the arc. He moves well without the ball in his hands and is an underrated passer. Gheysens is a hard-working guard prospect who can score in a variety of ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="1407193" first="Max" last="Portnoy"], 6’2 SG Eastern 2024

Portnoy has had a good summer for Team Final Black 16U as he has shown his versatility. The 6’2 guard has a smooth shooting stroke and rarely forces jumpers in the half court. Portnoy moves well without the ball in his hands and can draw contact in the paint. He slides his feet well on the defensive end and dives on the floor for loose balls. Portnoy is a tough guard prospect who can make plays at both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1460634" first="Everett" last="Barnes"], 6’8 C Burlington City 2025

Burlington City may technically be in Central Jersey, but that does not take away from Barnes’ ability to impact the game down low. The 6’8 post rips down rebounds at both ends of the floor and uses his length to swat shots around the basket. Barnes has a nice touch around the basket and knows how to get position down low. He is developing more confidence and range on the offensive end. Barnes has had a solid summer with the South Jersey Titans, which has helped his stock.

[player_tooltip player_id="1206526" first="Anthony" last="Aririguzoh"], 6’6 PF Hun 2023

Aririguzoh has had a good summer with the Rens United after a solid showing during the high school live period with Hun. The 6’6 forward slides his feet on the defensive end and has the potential to defend multiple positions. Aririguzoh finishes strong around the basket and can make layups through traffic. He has a nice release on his jumper and can make opponents pay for giving him space on the perimeter. Aririguzoh is a prospect to watch with his combination of size, length, athleticism and skill.

[player_tooltip player_id="1407100" first="Tye" last="Dorset"], 6’2 SG Lenape 2024

Dorset is Lenape’s top returning scorer and should see his usage go up in the offense this coming season. The 6’2 guard has a tight handle, which he uses to get by his defender and finish around the basket. Dorset has a good shooting stroke and sets his feet before he shoots. He is capable of running the offense in a pinch and can defend either guard spot. Dorset is a guard prospect who makes plays at both ends of the floor.
