Expert Analysis
Andrew Herman | Prep Hoops Scout
Dorset has put together some excellent games so far this season from the shooting guard position. Averaging 19 ppg while also getting involved and making an impact on the defensive end shows his promising two-way ability. His aggressiveness in attacking the rim on the offensive end is how he gets most of his points as he has lighting speed on the fastbreak whenever he comes up with the steal. Look for Dorset to continue to have a successful season.

Dorset can score in his sleep with how talented he is with the basketball in his hands. His shooting ability is what makes him a tough outing to defend because of how elite he is finishing around the rim. His range is deep as he likes to use handles to create space off the dribble. If the defense is pressing him he will use his quickness to get by defenders where he will look to get to the rim and hang in the air with anyone. Dorset can get into the midrange area whenever he wants in which he uses his unstoppable pull-up game no matter how tight the defense is playing. His defensive ability is great as he has great timing and instincts on when to poke the ball free to create numerous turnovers for his team.

Dorset plays with a lot of shiftiness to his game and has a lot of moves to go to for him to score in many different ways. When it comes to three-point shooting Dorset needs very little space to let it fly from downtown. He can create more space with his impressive handles. Once Dorset gets into the midrange and painted area he can finish over anyone. He is smooth in the pull-up game and has a lot of shot fakes and moves to go to when in the paint to finish over taller defenders.

Dorset has all the talent in the world on the offensive side of the ball but when it comes to playmaking I feel it’s his greatest strength. He likes to come off of screens and look for open teammates. He can take you off the dribble and draw double teams and kick it out into the wide-open corner shooter. Dorset can make some fast bullet passes that make it hard for defenses to pick it off. His ability to run a fastbreak under control and make the correct reads give him more space to work with.

Dorset can do everything when it comes to playing defense as well as offense making him a complete two-way player. He guards the perimeter extremely well and knows when to help with double-team traps. He excels in zone defenses as he will look to keep players who can’t shoot on the perimeter. That’s where his quick lateral movements come into play which he uses to lock up the other team’s best player. Dorset can guard the fastbreak well and will look to block your shot if he gets beat off the dribble.

Dorset has all the confidence in the world to take any shot he wants. He is great at breaking down a defender and hitting the stepback three-point shot. Dorset will look to come off of the pick-n-roll for an open three or look to set up his teammates down low. He has a high release making it hard to contest his shots. His excellent ability to shoot off the catch-and-shoot is what stands out along with his deep range well beyond the arc.
