Woods was a problem for any player matched up with. With the ball in his hands Woods got into the paint often and scored more than a dozen times versus Minnesota Select. In the title game Woods ran the show for Fury Zurn picking his spots of when to score and when to set up teammates. In the SPTS semi’s versus Minnesota Heat PBJ, Woods was nearly unstoppable scoring 33 points. Woods did a similar move that JMac does for the Wolves, passed to a wing, and then cut to the basket. Versus Heat PBJ Woods had at least 3 baskets off cuts like this.
Ryan Johnson Ryan Johnson 6'4" | SG Lakeville South | 2024 State MN – 6’4 – Guard – Lakeville South/Minnesota Select
Ryan Johnson Ryan Johnson 6'4" | SG Lakeville South | 2024 State MN joined Minnesota Select 17s late in the 2022 AAU season. The lefty shooter added a new wrinkle to an already solid bunch, and playing up a class was no problem for the six-foot-four-inch guard. Johnson’s most surprising skill versus Playmakers North was adeptness passing the ball. He made two tight window assists and pushed the ball when needed.
Dominic Fairbanks Dominic Fairbanks 5'10" | PG Cass Lake-Bena | 2024 State MN – 5’10 – Guard – Cass-Lake Bena/Playmakers North
Dominic Fairbanks Dominic Fairbanks 5'10" | PG Cass Lake-Bena | 2024 State MN is another 2024 player playing up a class. The 2024 guard from Cass-Lake Bena has had a productive summer off the ball in the Playmakers North offense. Hitting 3s off screens, or when opposing defenders go under in ball screens, you can’t leave Fairbanks open on the perimeter.
Luke Dobbs Luke Dobbs 6'0" | PG St. Thomas Academy | 2024 State MN – 6’1 – Guard – St. Thomas Academy/Minnesota Select
Dobbs used his speedy quickness to make plays to keep Select in the championship game versus Fury. Pushing the ball up the sidelines or getting himself in position to shoot 3s, Dobbs was consistently putting the Minnesota Fury on their heels. Dobbs finished with what appeared to be 17 points and a few assists.
Will Strandemo Will Strandemo 5'11" | PG Delano | 2024 State MN – 5’11 – Guard – Delano/Minnesota Comets
The five-foot-eleven-inch combo guard from Delano in a spaced floor environment really shows off his shiftiness. During one game, Strandemo squared up a defender, gave a right to left cross that stumbled the defender in the middle of the floor that allowed him to get to the elbow for a clean 15-foot jumper. Strandemo was the leader of the Minnesota Comets team getting them to the semi’s in the 16U division where they fell to Minnesota Select.
Jonathan Mekonnen Jonathan Mekonnen 6'8" | PF Eastview | 2024 State #201 Nation MN – 6’7 – Wing – Eastview/Minnesota Heat PBJ
When we’re talking about Jonathan Mekonnen Jonathan Mekonnen 6'8" | PF Eastview | 2024 State #201 Nation MN next spring the conversation could be when is a Power 5 going to offer. Mekonnen is the rare, raw talent of length and athleticism coaches drool over. Mekonnen had a block in the semi’s versus Fury where his hand was at the top of the square of the backboard that was a part of a 8-1 run by the Heat.
Brandon Hrncir Brandon Hrncir 6'8" | PF Farmington | 2024 State MN – 6’6 – Forward – Farmington/Minnesota Fury
In the SPTS championship game versus Minnesota Select Hrncir put together 18 points in multiple ways. He had a euro in transition for a lay-up, made a 3-pointer, rolled and caught a pass for a lay-up from Maxwell Woods Maxwell Woods 5'10" | PG Chanhassen | 2024 MN , a play in which he was fouled, and got an offensive rebound putback.
Dawson Bunke Dawson Bunke 6'5" | PF Rushford-Peterson | 2024 State MN – 6’6 – Wing Minnesota Select/Rushford-Peterson
Dawson Bunke Dawson Bunke 6'5" | PF Rushford-Peterson | 2024 State MN has a pretty good looking jump shot. The six-foot-six-inch wing playing for Minnesota Select took three deep 3s at the SPTS finals versus Minnesota Fury and buried them. One a long curl, another where he cut back towards the top of the key, and a third was off a double high pick play. For the game Bunke made 5 3s in a very valid effort to keep Select close in the title game.
Eli Ehrke Eli Ehrke 6'3" | SG Glencoe-Silver Lake | 2024 State MN – 6’2 – Guard – Glencoe-Silver Lake/Minnesota Fury
Eli Ehrke Eli Ehrke 6'3" | SG Glencoe-Silver Lake | 2024 State MN did a little of everything in the Fury SPTS title game offensively. Scored on a couple drives, knocked down a 3, and contributed to helping the offense stay moving. Versus Heat PBJ, he contributed more on defense with a steal and a block.
Jalen Langsy Jalen Langsy 5'11" | PG Shakopee | 2024 State MN – 6’1 – Guard – Minnesota Heat PBJ/Shakopee
Langsy used quickness and a right to left crossover to get to the rim versus Fury in the semi’s for two scores. Langsy scored 13 points putting in 9 of those 13 in the second half a game they trailed by double digits at one point to fall by four. The six-foot-one-inch point guard can run the show in a traditional sense or switch a more scoring lead role when needed.
