The Las Vegas Big Time hosted by recruiting legend Gary Charles features teams from around the country and is a staple of The Summer Grassroots Basketball Season. The tournament, which runs from Wednesday, July 20th, until Sunday, July 24th, featured pool play on Thursday and Friday, with bracket play beginning on Saturday and a Champion crowned on Sunday. The event provided me a look at several players in the class of 2024.The event provided the perfect opportunity to evaluate a ton of local prospects. I got to see several talented young players. Here’s a look at my 2024 evals.
Zak Greene 6’4 SG Grassroots Elite – Reminds me of Namon Brice from the wire. Greene showed more athleticism, power, and skill than the fictional character. He played well, attacking downhill, showing good footwork and the ability to finish in conflict. He made his share of open shots and had a knack for going over the top of larger players for rebounds.
Jaiden Pennicott 6’0 PG Grassroots Elite – Quick guard with even quicker hands. Pennicott was a thief on the defensive end, getting steals and turning them into transition offense. He is a blow-by straight line driver with a good first step.
Daniel Steverson Daniel Steverson 6'2" | SG Cleveland | 2025 #315 Nation NM 6’4 SG ABC Spotlight – Steverson showed me a signature skill this weekend. His ability to go up and rebound the basketball was tremendous. For a guy that has some straight-line driving skill, he scored an additional 4 to 6 junk points off offensive rebounds. Looks the part, and played with a high motor. Steverson grabbed the best out-of-area rebound that I saw during the weekend.
Javares Reid Javares Reid 6'9" | C Rosemary Anderson Prep | 2024 State OR 6’8 PF West Coast Select – Reid looked more confident than I have ever seen him before. He blocked shots which isn’t unusual, however, his new found offensive game was. He faced the basket and showed a decent touch around the rim. Great frame with his ever-improving skill makes him a stockriser in the class.
Jace Aquiningoc Jace Aquiningoc 5'9" | PG Liberty | 2024 State NV 5’8 PG West Coast Select – Learn the name now. Aquininnoc will be fun to watch this season. He has the kind of wiggle and shiftiness that home fans love. Highly skilled PG was good all weekend, showing breakdown skill to go along with deadly outside shooting ability.
Chance Winter Chance Winter 6'10" | C Beaverton | 2024 State OR 6’10 C OBC – Winter caught my eye a couple of times. His size is obvious, however, his fluidity and timing are above average. I love versatile shot blockers and he showed the ability to protect the interior as well as get out and challenge perimeter jumpers. Big man currently has no interest from schools.
Andre Porter Andre Porter 6'0" | SF Liberty | 2024 State NV 6’1 SF West Coast Select – Porter’s productivity speaks for itself as he helped WCS take home a crown. Improved strength and mobility has helped him off the dribble and at the rim. He also is a high-IQ defender that gets his hands on a lot of balls, with tips and deflections.
