Continue ReadingThe Spring Grassroots season is quickly coming to an end. We only have one remaining stop on our PrepHoops Spring Circuit, and many other AAU events are taking a pause for June to give way to High School programs. For the last two months, I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate several local prospects, with an eye toward the rankings. The improvement between a player’s freshman and sophomore season is crucial to their development and can put them squarely on the radar. In this article, we take a look at some Sleepers from the Spring Grassroots Season.
Chris Natale Jr Chris Natale Jr 6'4" | SF Foothill | 2024 State NV 6’4 PF Foothill|Feets – Natale has size and moves well. He’s going to have to improve his overall athletic ability as well as get a little stronger to have a larger impact come high school season. He’s a fluid runner who has shown the ability to change ends of the floor, adding the strength will go a long way to improving his overall production.
Faris Mucharbach Faris Mucharbach 6'9" | C Bishop Gorman | 2024 State NV 6’7 PF Bishop Gorman|Prominent Elite (featured image) – Mucharbach came from way off the radar to make an impression on me this spring. He averaged less than a point per game as a freshman for BG, however, he has shown some improvement since then. He moves well and is strong enough to grab rebounds in traffic. What really impressed was his offensive game, as he flashed some low post threat ability when I saw him out in Phoenix.
Robert Blandanburg Robert Blandanburg 6'6" | SF SLAM | 2024 State NV 6’6 PF SLAM|Las Vegas Knicks – I’ve been waiting for Blandburg to pop for quite a while, and it looks like this may be the year. He’s been playing with the Addidas Las Vegas Knicks squad and has shown some overall improvement. He’s a guy that will play with a high motor, but as his offensive game comes around, look for him to catch the eye of a few people.
Javares Reid Javares Reid 6'9" | C Rosemary Anderson Prep | 2024 State OR 6’7 PF Liberty|West Select – From a physical standpoint, Reid is as impressive as it gets. He has long arms and lean muscle. I’ve been impressed with his improvement over the last year, as he plays with a much better defensive IQ. Reid has been attentive in help side situations, and with his length and athletic ability, he a deterrent for driving guards attacking the basket.
R’zha Whittle R’zha Whittle 6'8" | C Rancho | 2024 State NV 6’8 C Rancho|Las Vegas Knicks – Look for Whittle to be a potential stockriser as well. The big man is one of the top low post players in the state and has shown a remarkable ability to score with his back to the basket. He is a sleeper mainly due to a lost Covid season, and missing the early part of his sophomore campaign. I expect him to come into the upcoming year, in shape and ready to dominate.
Amari Davis Amari Davis 6'9" | PF Hug | 2024 State NV 6’8 SF McQueen| Utah Syndicate – It’s easy to see why Davis is a sleeper. He plays up in Reno and doesn’t participate for any local AAU squads. However, I have a feeling that once people do lay eyes on him, that sleeper tag will change. Davis is a big strong athlete that has shown some athleticism and perimeter skills. His breakthrough will most likely come next month as he prepares to compete on the EYBL with his syndicate squad.
