There were a handful prospects that hadn’t gotten much publicity that simply played well enough to earn some recognition. Here are six more players that caught my attention with their strong play down at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
Zayvion Baker Zayvion Baker 5'10" | PG Terre Haute South | 2024 State IN (Terre Haute South H.S. 2024/George Hill All Indy 2024): Baker certainly turned some heads this weekend at the Grassroots Invitational with George Hill All Indy’s 16u squad. The small, shifty guard made plays off of the dribble consistently with his driving ability. He is quick in transition, can make open shots from the perimeter, and is a pesky on-ball defender as well. One of his best weekends of the spring.
Gavin Betten Gavin Betten 6'7" | PF Manchester | 2025 State IN (Manchester H.S. 2025/Indy Heat EYBL 2025): This 6’5″ forward has shown off his versatility and skill level all spring long culminating in a great weekend at EYBL Session III. Betten can attack closeouts and drive it in a straight line, has a soft touch when facing up to the basket, and has the strength to finish inside around smaller defenders. Sneaky athletic too! He will be one that shoots up our rankings at the next update.
Trey Buchanan Trey Buchanan 6'0" | PG Westfield | 2024 State IN (Westfield H.S. 2024/Grand Park Premier Black 2024): His name came up in nearly every conversation on Sunday after pouring in 28 points on six three-pointers in a single game. Buchanan is a highly skilled guard that can obviously shoot the basketball very well, but also is flashing improvements as a creator off of the dribble. He has big shoes to fill at Westfield, but appears poised for a breakout junior season and month of June.
Marial Diper Marial Diper 6'11" | C Rock Creek Academy | 2023 State IN (Rock Creek Academy 2023/George Hill All Indy 2023): Anytime you get the chance to see a 6’11″ prospect with plus length it is intriguing. Diper has solid mobility at his size, rebounds the ball well, and is a rim protector on the defensive end. He has gotten stronger, but will continue to see his game take off as he physically develops more and more. His game is still just scratching the surface of where it could end up.
Sam Higgins Sam Higgins 6'5" | SF Floyd Central | 2025 State IN (Floyd Central H.S. 2025/Indiana Elite Defenders 2025): This was my first look at the athletic 6’4″ forward this spring and I came away very impressed. Higgins is bouncy around the basket, has a smooth looking jump shot from the mid-range, and can go get rebounds out of his area. Put together an impressive performance Sunday morning at the Grassroots Invitational.
Reece Potter Reece Potter 6'11" | C Lexington Catholic | 2023 State #212 Nation KY (Lexington Catholic 2023/Indy Heat EYBL 2023): Potter is a legit 7-footer that has progressed throughout the spring on the EYBL circuit. Down in Louisville for Session III he looked more comfortable and confident around the basket, rebounded well, and protected the rim defensively. His strong play earned him an offer from East Tennessee State adding to a list of low/mid-major offers and high-major interest.
