Over the weekend many of the grassroots teams from southeastern PA traveled out to the Hoop Group facility in Manalapan, New Jersey for the Jersey Shore Jam Fest tournament. One or two other squads competed at Nike EYBL Session III in Louisville, Kentucky as well as the at the 76ers Classic (DE).
Below is Part II in our review of prospects from southeastern PA (and beyond) who impressed with their outstanding play on grassroots circuit this past weekend.
17U (2023s)
Abu Kamara – 6’0” / Interboro / SK Elite 17 / Combo Guard: Kamara is an outstanding two-sport athlete who is a tremendous running back (He scored 5 TDs in a single game.) and defensive back for Interboro’s football team. On the hoops court Kamara can get buckets from mid-range to the rim. Additionally, his speed and athleticism make Kamara an excellent lane filler on the fast break. At the Jesery Shore Jam Fest Kamara also displayed the intangibles college coaches love so much – a high basketball IQ, solid communication skills and a strong commitment to defense. The upside on this prospect is scary good.
Maki Pettigrew – 6’0” / SLA at Beeber / SK Elite 17 / Combo Guard: Pettigrew is a backcourt prospect who can play either guard spot. At the point guard spot, Pettigrew’s quick first step and filthy handles allow him to blow past defenders to create opportunities for himself. If the help defense closes out quickly, Pettigrew will distribute the ball. As a shooting guard, Pettigrew can slash to the basket for a catch and lay-in. Then when the defender sags off him, Pettigrew will use the space to drain a 3-ball.

K-Low Elite
/ Power Forward: “Kachi’s” 7’3” wingspan and superb athleticism grab your attention during warmups at the Jersey Shore Jam Fest. Once the game tips off, “Kachi’s” elite all-around offensive skill set quickly becomes apparent. He can score on the interior in a variety of way. He excels in the transition game where he can finish with an alley-oop. Plus, “Kachi’s” jump shot has range out to the arc. This past weekend he powered
K-Low Elite
to a 3-1 record. “Kachi” already holds over twenty DI college offers.

PA
– 6’1” / Imhotep Charter / Team Final EYBL / Combo Guard: Nowell continues to “play up’ with Team Final EYBL 17s and this past weekend at Nike EYBL Session III (KY), he continued to impress. Nowell averaged 16.2 points and 4 rebounds per contest while helping to direct Team Final 17s to a 5-0 record. Obviously Nowell can score the rock at an astonishing level. But it is his versatility that really separates him from other guards. Nowell can play either guard spot at a high level. He excels in an up and down style, but Nowell is also a tremendous half-court player. His scoring skills are complimented by his ability to recognize when to move the ball to an open teammate. Simply put Nowell is an extremely well-rounded prospect, and he is only a sophomore.

Philly Pride
National UAA / Shooting Guard: At the Jersey Shore Jam Fest Guidinger continued to display his elite three-point shooting while helping
Philly Pride
to a 3-0 record. However, his offensive skill set has taken a noticeable step forward this spring. Now when a defender attempts to run him off the arc, Guidinger can put the ball on the floor and get to his mid-range spots or all the way to the tin. Guidinger’s basketball IQ is through the roof. His length and instincts make him an effective rebounder at both ends of the floor. Guidinger recently picked up an offer from the University of Toledo.
Amir Nelson – 5’10” / Frankford / Philly Pride Select / Combo Guard: Plain and simple, Nelson (8.3 ppg. this past HS season) is a playmaker. At Jersey Shore Jam Fest he used his quickness to blow past defenders for a lay-ins or to execute drive and kicks to open shooters. Nelson knocked down open jumpers all weekend as well. Plus, he used his tenacious defense to create turnovers. If positive things were happening for Philly Pride Select (2-1), Nelson most likely had a hand in the action.

Olin Chamberlain

PA
– 6’3” / St. Joseph’s Prep / NJ Scholars Elite / Point Guard: Chamberlain and the Scholars 2025s played up in 16s age group at the Jersey Shore Jam Fest and won their division. Chamberlain’s backcourt play was a huge reason for their success. He is a downhill style of lead guard who applies constant pressure on a defense. Most of the time the unselfish Chamberlain is looking to distribute to an open teammate. When he does look to put points on the scoreboard, Chamberlain does so by using the bounce to get to his mid-range jumper or all the way into the paint for a floater / lay-in.
Paul Glants – 6’3” / Abington / K-Low Elite / Wing: This extremely athletic, muscular, and versatile prospect was a matchup problem for opposing teams at the Jersey Shore Jam Fest. On the perimeter Glants can shoot the three, score off the dribble drive and is a deft passer, so bigs struggled to defend him. Guards who attempt to man-up on Glants simply were taken to the weight room where Glants scored through / over them at will. On defense he is a Swiss army knife who can guard 3 through 5. Glants all-around outstanding play was open the keys to K-Low’s 3-1 record this past weekend.

PA
– 6’1” / Central York / York Ballers / Point Guard: The York Ballers 2025 crew “played up” in the 16U age group at the 76ers Classic (DE) and Natal’s phenomenal play over the weekend was a big reason they brought home the hardware. Across YB’s 5-0 run in Delaware, Natal averaged 15.7 points along with 4.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per contest. He posted 23 points (5 threes) in the championship game. Natal is a do-it-all backcourt prospect who can score at all three levels or play distributor and he is just scratching the surface of his potential.
