Several key players return for the always competitive Pirates, including a first team all county guard poised for a breakout season as one of the main candidates for county player of the year. The Pirates always have a next man up mentality and many player have to simply “wait their turn” and are a bit “under the radar” for most fans, but those following the AAU circuit, as well as colleges, know there’s always talent to be had at Seton Hall Prep.
Jackson Bleeker Jackson Bleeker 6'3" | SG Seton Hall Prep | 2024 New E | 6’4” | G | Seton Hall Prep
Bleecker led the Pirates to the Essex County Title and was a dynamic force on both ends of the court as a junior. Excellent shooter with a quick release. Silky smooth player who moves well without the ball and has good handles as well. His skillset and high GPA(NHS member) should make him a hot commodity in Essex County for colleges as a senior. He plays AAU for the NJ Panthers. Had 27 vs Columbia, 23 vs Irvington and 18 vs Immaculate Conception as a junior. He had 14 in the county final win over Newark Central. Scholarship level player.
Isaiah Shoyombo | 6’1” | G | Seton Hall Prep
Shoyombo saw spot action as a junior for the Pirates but has been having a good showcase summer for the Unity Legends AAU team. He’s got a good first step and gets at the rim with both hands. He can shoot from deep and finish through contact. Stats don’t matter at a program like Seton Hall Prep, because everyone can contribute and many players have to “wait their turn”—He’s the type of player who could have a good summer and then take it into his senior year to earn minutes and looks from D3 schools.
Darrius Phillips Darrius Phillips 6'7" | PF Seton Hall Prep | 2023 State NJ | 6’7” | F | Seton Hall Prep
Phillips was a role player who filled a variety of needs on both ends of the floor as a junior and is poised to have a bigger role as a senior. He hits the boards hard and runs the floor well for a bigger player. He’s also a good passer. His most important moment as a junior was coming off the bench to provide a spark in the Essex County Final victory over Central. He had only two points, but his other stats jumped off the sheets with 7 boards, 5 assists and 3 blocks. He had a double double vs Central(11&11) and a solid game in the 39-38 loss to Bosco in states(9&8)
Shawn Lyght | 6’3” | G | Seton Hall Prep
Lyght is a multi-sport athlete who’s known best for his high level lacrosse game. One of the top defensemen in the nation, he’s committed to Notre Dame to play lacrosse at the next level, but his sheer athleticism translates to him being a valuable member of the basketball team as well. Lyght was tasked with coming off the bench in the county final win and responded by leading the Pirates to the title by scoring 18 points and drawing much praise from his coach.
