The most eye-catching athlete on both courts Saturday morning was Tennessee Rainwater Tennessee Rainwater 6'6" | CG Davenport | 2023 State WA . The 6-5 2023 wing from Davenport High School is a step above everybody else physically.
He exploded out of transition for three quick baskets at the rim. He blew past, went over, and around would-be defenders. He then confidently drained a corner three for nine of the first 13 points for Eastern Wasginton 1 as they went on to win their first game over Tacoma 3.
Rainwater also had a few second half highlight dunks sandwiched around a rolled ankle just to show he was not going to be stopped by or slowed down by a minor injury. He always had the high D-1 athletic traits but he now has the shooting, passing, and ballhandling to match.
Throwing the ball up the court to Rainwater was Pullman’s Jaedyn Brown Jaedyn Brown 6'3" | CG Pullman | 2023 State WA . The crafty point guard is a lot stronger and sturdier than he looks. He has terrific balance and exudes leadership. He pushes tempo safely, directs his teammates with his voice and talks and points with a purpose. But what truly makes him a leader is the fact that he has followers. His teammates gladly accept his orders and anxiously outlet the ball to him.
Providing many of the outlet passes was the physical Maverick Sanders Maverick Sanders 6'5" | SF Mt Spokane | 2023 State WA . Sanders is a rugged and tireless big man from Mt. Spokane. He loves contact. He is a beast on the defensive boards and relentlessly pursues offensive rebounds out of his area. He is not deterred nor slowed down by being fouled, missing shots, or not getting the ball for a few possessions.
For the Yakima team, Luke Navarre Luke Navarre 6'5" | SG Zillah | 2023 State WA of Zillah showed out vs Tacoma 4 in leading his team to an opening game victory. Navarre is another big, physical, high-flying wing. He showed the ability to successfully spin move in traffic, stroke the three, and navigate through small openings to score on the opposite side of the rim.
Another Yakima player that impressed was 2024 6-4 Dylan Jay of Chelan. The big shooting guard was able to consistently get to the free throw line using post moves and strong direct-line drives. He also caught lob passes at the rim and showed off his quick release long range three point shot.
