<p><em>HYATTSVILLE, MD</em> -- Players are back with their high school teams as grassroots basketball takes a break for the next several weeks. Here are some takeaways from Tuesday’s action at Capitol Hoops Summer League. Any stats referenced were provided courtesy of Legit Stats. </p> <h5>Perkins Leads Impressive Bears</h5> <p>Landon could be a sneaky-good team next season. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"]</strong> is trending up after his excellent all-around performance vs. a tough Bulldogs squad. The dynamic lefty, who posted a double-double, is poised for a productive senior campaign. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Mannino-Frankie-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465423" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Mannino-Frankie-Head-Shot-300x200.png" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1370504" first="Frankie" last="Mannino"]</strong> continues to play good basketball as well. The 2025 wing, who flirted with a double-double, was consistently aggressive. Mannino plays a mature brand of basketball. He is vocal and impacts the game in a myriad of ways. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Zaid-Ube-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465430" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Zaid-Ube-Head-Shot-300x201.png" alt="" width="300" height="201" /></a></p> <p>The X-Factor for the Bears could be 2026 guard <strong>Ube Zaid</strong>. He is quick like a cat and fearless. Zaid took a couple of charges and hit multiple shots. </p> <h5>Lathrop Emerging for the Cavs</h5> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1429654" first="Owen" last="Lathrop"]</strong>, who plays for the NOVA Cavs and now the Woodson Cavs after transferring from SSSAS, is a stock-riser to know in the local 2023 class. Lathrop is a solid all-around player who scores and creates for others. He posted 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in a win over Sandy Spring. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Donovan-Sean-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465435" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Donovan-Sean-Head-Shot-300x200.png" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a></p> <p><strong>Sean Donovan</strong> continues to progress for the Cavs. The versatile forward, who is in great physical condition, nearly double-doubled on Tuesday. Donovan looks the part and has a good skill base with potential. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Chilton-Kaylen-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465445" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Chilton-Kaylen-Head-Shot-300x200.png" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a></p> <p><strong>Kaylen Chilton</strong> was one of the breakout performers from Tuesday’s action. The class of 2026 guard exhibits supreme confidence and significant upside. Chilton drilled 5 of 10 treys on his way to 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. </p> <h5>Spalding vs. McNamara Doesn’t Disappoint</h5> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Washington-Malik-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465452" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Washington-Malik-Head-Shot-300x201.png" alt="" width="300" height="201" /></a></p> <p>The BCL vs. WCAC matchup between Spalding and McNamara was an instant classic. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1370513" first="Malik" last="Washington"]</strong> was the alpha dog on the court. He posted 15 points and 8 rebounds to spearhead an impressive comeback. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Carter-Kam-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465461" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Carter-Kam-Head-Shot-300x200.png" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a></p> <p><strong>Kam Carter</strong> had some bright moments for the Cavs during Tuesday’s contest. He scored at all three levels, touched the paint frequently, and made plays for others. Carter has a chance to become a household name locally down the road. </p> <h5>Hawks Still Formidable</h5> <p>It looks like rising senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1115503" first="Greg" last="Jones"]</strong> will be handling the ball quite a bit for Hayfield next season. He was outstanding for his team during their win over Flint Hill. Jones led the team in scoring, but made clutch plays on both ends and regularly set others up for open shots. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Ramirez-Andy-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465466" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Ramirez-Andy-Head-Shot-300x199.png" alt="" width="300" height="199" /></a></p> <p><strong>Andy Ramirez</strong> is expected to step into a bigger role next season. The rangy 2023 wing is a responsible team defender who helps his team control the glass. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Card-Phoenix-Head-Shot.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1465473" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/Card-Phoenix-Head-Shot-300x201.png" alt="" width="300" height="201" /></a></p> <p>Hayfield fans should be excited about the potential of rising freshman <strong>Phoenix Card</strong>. He is a lefty who can shoot the three but is also effective at attacking closeouts. Card looks like he isn’t done growing yet either. It will be fun watching him mature in the upcoming years. </p>
