On May 21st-22nd I attended Ron Coleman’s Southwest Showcase Summer Championship (Session 2) at the Kroc Center in Phx, AZ.

I focused on Varsity and JV Gold Boys divisions and I ended up watching 20+ teams.

Here were some of the 2024 power forward and center standouts from last weekend:

[player_tooltip player_id="1074371" first="Jovan" last="Milicevic"] Dream City (AZ Unity EYBL 16)

A super skilled and patient scorer with a thicker build allows him to bang inside the paint. He is a very good passer for his size and has great hands to catch any pass in traffic. He wont wow you with his leaping ability but his mind and skill work at a high level to go along with his physicality. He gets offensive rebound put backs, simple cuts to the basket and his post footwork is next level stuff.

[player_tooltip player_id="1284853" first="Travis" last="Torain"] Dream City (AZ Unity EYBL 16)

An athletic forward can handle it better then I thought. He is a quick second jumper and has a pretty shooting stroke. He is very long in the passing lanes to collect steals and he is a fluid mover in space. He shot the ball at a high level in the EYBL and does a lot of little things to win a game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1131814" first="Ring" last="Nyeri"] Liberty (Factory 16)

A long shot blocker changed every game with his presence inside. He moves well from end to end and disrupts the opposing teams interior offense. Offensively, his go-to move is his polished hook shot with his right hand. He also can step out and hit the three if given time and space.

[player_tooltip player_id="1449295" first="Ibrahim" last="Souare"] Dream City (AZ Unity EYBL 16)

A natural rim runner and shot blocker who is a powerfully built top-shelf athlete. He handles the ball decently and will take it off the glass and go coast to coast at times. He can step out but he can still use the reps from shooting to his post footwork.

[player_tooltip player_id="1449296" first="Majak" last="Thokbor"] Dream City (AZ Unity EYBL 16)

A graceful moving center with real size. He tries to dunk everything and will block or alter many shots. He has a drop step move and a decent touch on his FT. He can occasionally hit from mid-range and brings good defensive energy.

[player_tooltip player_id="1225985" first="Jonah" last="Jones"] Phhoenix Prep (AZ Select Fauske)

A pogo stick type of athlete brings a motor to every game. He rebounds in and out of his area and is adding skill to his athleticism. He can shoot it comfortably to the three point line and is best from the elbow. He will rebound, block shots and rim run.

[player_tooltip player_id="1464064" first="Michael" last="Chukwujigha"] N/A (High Altitude 17) (Pictured)

A Nigerian forward moved to Arizona from Wasatch Academy. He is currently looking for a spot with his guardian. He is a freak athlete and explodes up to block shots, grab every rebound near him and will throw it down. A top of the box type of athlete brings a huge motor. He is still a little raw offensively, but you can’t teach his physical attributes.

[player_tooltip player_id="1141428" first="Jaxton" last="Payne"] Williams Field (UH Elite 16)

A thicker post player gained three inches since last year. He holds his ground in the post with a sturdy frame and uses his size and length to rebound and block shots. He can score on put backs and hook shots. Once he gets quicker from end to end, he will be even more valuable.
