If you’ve seen Max play this year you know he’s confident, brash, a high level scorer and an elite passer at the point guard position. Max scored over 28 points a game this winter lifting a small Stillwater team to a near .500 record at the AAAA level and now has Fury regarded as one of the best 17u teams in Minnesota.
In my opinion Max Shikenjanski Max Shikenjanski 6'2" | PG Stillwater | 2023 State #288 Nation MN is 6’2 but yet vastly under recruited. Maybe schools think he’s too small, maybe they think he’s too slow? Or maybe they just want to wait and see him play really well at some other school and then want to poach him later. I don’t know, but he’s under recruited and I asked him what schools should know about him.
“Colleges should know that no one will ever outwork me,” Max said. “I have a different shot, I’m not the biggest or strongest but no moment is too big for me. That’s what I live for is big games and playing against the best. I know I’ll be able to succeed wherever I go and fit into many programs because i’m very versatile. I would love to play anywhere and have that chance to play at the next level. Colleges just need to look at me for a game and I know they will love what they see, weather it’s a 30 point game, or a 0 point game with 10 assists and lockdown defense I can do a lot of things and I’m very under looked!”
May I add that I agree with everything that Max said. And most of the schools that are recruiting him likely agree.
“I’m hearing from a spread of many schools, some D1 and some D2. St Thomas, North Dakota State, Cornell, Mt St mMary’s, Davidson, Columbia, Wofford to name a few division one schools and for division two, Minnesota-Duluth, MSUM, MSU, SMSU, Bemidji State.
“As of right now I have no visits planned. Definitely looking to get on campus to a few schools I’m interested in, and get in touch a little more to plan those out but right now I have nothing planned.”
The Fury just finished up the spring portion of their schedule. It’s been a great year so far with the Fury being second among a dozen in the SPTS and one of the elite teams in the Midwest of the PH Circuit.
“This spring went great,” Max said. “I believe our record is sitting at 19-4 so very good so far. It’s a very fun team to play with, everyone connects very well and we all have a ton of fun. Personally I believe this spring went very well, the bigger the game it seemed like I played better which is always good. But I stayed very consistent with scoring, defense and moving the ball and passing well. I’m very happy with how I played overall.”
He’s playing well but where does Max want to improve?
“I hope to improve on my shot. It’s different but it goes in, you can always improve percentages. I also am looking to improve my lateral quickness for defense as well as my vertical. Everything else will just be improved with practice, like my pull up, finishing, etc.”
And before we go, we need to go back to the high school season. Stillwater won 13 games which is about five more than I expected as they were a very small team playing in a big school league.
“I feel like my junior season went very good. We overachieved as a team, obviously wanna perform a little better in playoffs but to lead the team in scoring, assists, rebounds, steals is always fun but my team worked very hard and I couldn’t be more proud of our guys, it was a very fun season.”
Seeing a pattern? Winning at a higher level than expected. That’s Max!
Max Shikenjanski is that player schools are gonna wish they recruited early.
"His passing wizardry was on full display in Indiana. He scores a ton but he’s also an elite passer"
