Continue ReadingThe NJIC Meadowlands conference is one of the deepest in the league, with Saint Mary’s of Rutherford, one of the last remaining small, parish-affiliated parochial schools in the entire state; along with Paterson Charter, who had a dominant year last season. Charter loses a host of talented players. Mary’s will get its own post for their super-talented underclassmen. Today, we look at the rest of the division.
Adrian Mouzone | 5’11” | G | Paterson Charter
One of the key pieces off the bench for senior heavy Paterson Charter, Mouzone will be tasked with taking on a leading role as one of the only seniors who saw significant minutes from a powerhouse team. Athletic guard who also was an all county selection in football at Kennedy HS. His top game as a junior was 14 vs Hackensack.
Josh Rodriguez | 6’1” | G | Hasbrouck Heights 2025
New Jersey seems to have 2025s making noise in every corner of the state, at schools of all sizes. Rodriguez had a “Hi Bergen County, get to know me” type of season. Rodriguez handles the ball well, shoots with the confidence of a senior and also crashes the boards like a multi-year varsity guy. Best games were Becton(28&12), Wood Ridge(23&15). Has a college basketball future—Level TBD. Check in somewhere around May 2024.
Cole Thomas | 5’10” | G | Becton Regional 2024
Thomas had a good sophomore season—Crafty left guard who runs the floor well and shoots it from deep. Can finish through contact and is a good on ball defender. He’s under the radar at Becton, who finished 6-19 last year, but is further proof of the depth of NJ Hoops—Teams with losing records have college players too—It’s that competitive in the Garden State. He grew more confident as the year went on, exploded for 42 on Wallington and went for double digits in 10 of his last 11 games. D3s should be checking in to monitor his development.
Keanu Ray | 6’2” | G | Weehawken
Ray is at his best out in the open floor and also is a slasher who finishes strong with both hands at the rim. Big bodied guard who gets through contact in the paint. He’s also got range beyond the arc. The heart of the Weekhawken team last year, will carry the burden again as a senior. His best games were 29 vs Ferris and 26 vs St Marys. He went over 30 several times. He’s got a legit shot to cross 1,000 points late in his senior year. D3s should check him out this winter
