What Minnesota senior prospects had the biggest winters raising their stock as potential college talents? Here is our list at the high level of these rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id="1143863" first="Jamal" last="Ambrose"] of Eastview (6’10 Big). Jamal was a top 35 player prospect wise before but after a great winter, the stretch five with size and a touch pushed his way into a mid-major player and has since committed (likely signed with by now) to Omaha. His prospect status not only went up with production, but also because he changed his frame and has that face-up touch with range.

De’Meiko Anderson of Minneapolis North (6’1 Shooting Guard). Anderson physically matured and his game matured right along with it. A dependable shooter from all areas, De’Meiko was North’s leading scorer this winter at almost 17 points a game. He was the player that teams had to step higher to when closing out and De’Meiko became a more consistent finisher. I’m not sure where he will land initially at the college level but Anderson has proved to be a top 40/45 area prospect in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="958742" first="Terrence" last="Brown"] of Columbia Heights (6’1 PG). There were two people that pointed out that Terrence would be come a very talented player: Cory Davison (the mother of Brad Davison) many years ago when Terrence was a constant in that Maple Grove gym, and Max Wagner who informed all of us that he thought Terrence could become a top 25 player in the state. I always thought that Brown could be a very solid D3 recruit as he works so hard and has a great feel. Expected him to be about the third or fourth option for the Hylanders this year which is still a good thing. But Brown was the main playmaker and I think the likely MVP of the team leading Heights to second in Class AAA this year (in terms of final rankings). A massive jump as a player and I don’t think the massive jumps are done for Brown.

[player_tooltip player_id="958777" first="Kyle" last="Johnson"] of DeLaSalle (6’2 Shooting Guard). [player_tooltip player_id="958777" first="Kyle" last="Johnson"] taught me to trust instincts this winter: trust the instincts that you see from a player when he is playing very well for a team in the summer (Johnson was with the Minnesota Magic) and trust your own instincts in what you see. Kyle proved to be one of the best shooters in the state plus he is a better athlete than I thought and he certainly grew a bit and got stronger. Add in that he is an excellent defender and I think St. John’s got a steal.

[player_tooltip player_id="1143864" first="Devin" last="Newsome"] of South St. Paul (6’2 Shooting Guard). There are two things that I think Devin did this year to push him into a potential scholarship level player: he got stronger, way stronger, and I believe he became a higher percentage shooter at each of the three levels. Newsome led SSP in scoring this year putting up almost 20 a game for a one loss team. Devin is certainly one of the best shooters in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1434070" first="Tate" last="Olson"] of New York Mills (6’6 Wing). Olson is agile, he’s spent the year handling, he’s a solid shooter, and has excellent ball handling skills. He led his team to a top ten in Class A season this year averaging 25.6 points, 12.6 rebounds, 7 assists, and four steals a game. Olson showed his true abilities this year and he did it while getting his teammates going as well. Headed to Bemidji State.

[player_tooltip player_id="958757" first="Cody" last="Pennebaker"] of Park Center (6’6 Wing). Cody’s move to Park Center helped him earn a state title, he seemed to become a much better defender, his shooting percentage numbers were up, and Cody worked his way into a couple division one offers. Pennebaker is headed to Lamar. Another senior who worked his way to D1 over the winter.
