Continue ReadingSaint Thomas Aquinas has emerged as a major power player in New Jersey basketball over the last few years. The Trojans were 27-2 last year and won the GMC Tournament. Their only losses were to The George School(PA) and Rutgers Prep in States. Bob Turco is blessed with a wealth of returning talent that should keep them at the top of the GMC and battling for a place inside the Top 10 in the state.
Their Class of 2023 has several players who could receive interest at the scholarship level.
Sherief Guinyard | 6’6” | F | Saint Thomas Aquinas
An explosive two sport athlete who also lines up at TE and WR for the Trojans football team, he also made his presence felt on the basketball court. Strong on the glass at both ends of the floor and he’s also got some solid footwork and moves in the post. His athleticism causes problems for defenders. His best game as a junior as a double-double vs Colonia(10&10). His college future likely lies on the gridiron but he’ll have an important role to play for St. Thomas Aquinas this winter. He transferred in from Steinert and has played AAU with the NJ Bulldogs .
Jalen Pichardo Jalen Pichardo 6'6" | SF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State NJ | 6’6” | G | Saint Thomas Aquinas
A smooth 6’6” guard who played his role on a balanced GMC Championship team. He attacks the hoop well and uses his strong body to finish at the rim. Good rebounder. His ball handling skills are good for a bigger guard. He had a strong season for the Trojans after coming over from East Brunswick. He was almost a lock for a double-double every night. He had a solid game against Rutgers Prep in their final game of the State Tournament(13&8). He plays AAU for the NJ Bulldogs and had a good showing at Spooky Nook. A good AAU circuit and a strong senior season should see interest really take off for him.
Terrell Pitts Terrell Pitts 6'4" | SG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State NJ | 6’4” | G | Saint Thomas Aquinas
One of the key pieces to the puzzle for STA last year, Pitts is a big scoring guard who will be asked to shoulder much of the leadership this coming year. A very athletic guard who’s primary mode of attack is as a slasher. He’s also got the ability to pull up. Hits the boards hard. Had a solid season after transferring in from Bishop McDevitt(PA). He’s featured for the ShoreShots.
Kamal Lee Kamal Lee 6'0" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State NJ | 6’0” | G | Saint Thomas Aquinas
Lee is a tough guard who gets at the basket well and has a quick first step. He’s also an intense defender. Shoots well from deep and gets out on the fast break. Dished out over 100 assists as a junior. He’ll be asked to be a steadying force for the Trojans as a senior leader in the backcourt. Plays AAU for the NJ Bulldogs . Should have a host of options at the next level.
