Recruiting Update: Bryce Dyer (2022 North Medford)

Bryce Dyer 6'5" | PF | 2022
OR

Originally, [player_tooltip player_id="964544" first="Bryce" last="Dyer"] was going to be at home in Medford, busy with school and looking at his college recruitment. But when the late minute opportunity came for the hard-working 6-foot-5, 190-pound forward to join Team Oregon at WAVOR the Game, he jumped at the chance. He seamlessly fit in with the rest of his squad with his hustling, board crashing style and while they weren’t able to come away with a victory, the weekend was something that Dyer will always remember.

"It was awesome," Dyer said. "Even the practices were fun getting to play with some of the best seniors in the state and getting to stay in the hotel with the guys and the game, it was awesome. It was a really cool experience and I was glad I was able to do it."

While Team Oregon got down early and never recovered against Team Washington, the team always gave it their best effort. That certainly was the case with Dyer, who did his thing - playing all out, crashing the boards, and going after every loose ball. In the end, he finished with a team-high 9 boards but definitely had hoped for a better result.

"I think it could have been a much better game, we started off pretty slow and got ourselves in a hole," Dyer said. "We could have competed more if we had just hit a few more shots, it might have been a different game."

As noted, Dyer has been focused on his recruitment. He’s been talking to coaches at the NAIA, D-III, and JC levels and while one school does currently stand out, he remains open on what school he may attend and is definitely certain one what sport he’s playing.

"I’m definitely playing basketball in college and Southern Oregon looks the most likely right now," Dyer said. "They’re going through a coaching change and will have a new coach in late May or June, but Coach McDermitt is still doing the recruiting in the spring for them. They’re having some open gyms and I’ll be going to those. They’re returning 11 guys so I don’t know if it will be a preferred walk-on or a scholarship situation that first year, but after that first season there will be a lot of space opened up so I would be competing for a starting spot."

Whoever lands Dyer’s services will get a highly productive player who averaged 12.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.1 steals this past season for North Medford. The Black Tornado may have missed out on making state by one game, but it was a senior season he’s definitely proud of.

"Our season was awesome," Dyer said. "We think that we could have gotten a second home playoff game we would have been at the (state) tournament, but it’s tough you can’t control your conference. But it was a successful season and we played great as a team all year."

Dyer currently ranks as the #16 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
