As we do after each tournament, our staff of writers and Regional Scouts from the Grit Region have put our heads together and compared notes to compile our All-Tournament teams. This task was a little bit harder for Prep Hoops Live than other events because the venues were so spread out. Between Kansas City, Overland Park, and the surrounding area, all the way out to Lawrence, Kansas, it was hard to truly cover every single game. However, we always find a way! Here are our Prep Hoops Live Grit Region 16u All-Tournament Teams.
First Team
Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 5'9" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN (North Central H.S. 2024/EG10 2024): Lewis continued his strong spring by leading EG10 2024 to a perfect 4-0 weekend at Prep Hoops Live. The shifty playmaker constantly got into the middle of the defense where he could either score with his variety of intermediate range finishes or dish to an open teammate.
Matthew King Matthew King 6'3" | SG Bosco Institute | 2024 IN (Hammond Central H.S. 2024/EG10 2024): This 6’3″ wing continues to impress with his ability to dominate a game in transition. King uses his length and athleticism to play in the passing lanes defensively and then can run the sidelines well offensively in the break. Very tough to stop in the open floor.
Jason Jakstys Jason Jakstys 6'10" | C Yorkville | 2024 State #141 Nation IL (Yorkville H.S. 2024/Basketball Paradise 2024): One of the most anticipated matchups of Prep Hoops Live took place on Sunday as a pair of Class of 2024 big men battled it out. The 6’9″ Jakstys went against Trey’Dez Green from Louisiana finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. The Yorkville center has Division I coaches very interested.
Tim Williams (North Central H.S. 2024/D1 Indiana 2024-2): Williams has been living on All-Tournament teams this spring as a standout guard for D1 Indiana’s Prep Hoops Circuit team. The long, quick guard had another fantastic showing out in Kansas City leading his team to a perfect 4-0 record. Definitely a name you will continue to hear more and more about this spring and summer.
Bryce Salek (Yorkville Christian 2024/Basketball Paradise 2024): This two-way wing helped lead Basketball Paradise to an impressive 3-1 weekend against some of the best 16u competition that Prep Hoops Live had to offer. He was especially impressive more than holding his own against a loaded Iowa Barnstormers team on Saturday.
Second Team
Allen Briggs (Michigan City H.S. 2024/Team GRIII 2024 Elite): It was a tough weekend for Team GRIII 2024 Elite playing against some stiff competition, but this versatile 6’1″ wing was a major bright spot. Briggs’ ability to drive it from the wings and use his athleticism to score around the basket stood out consistently throughout their four games.
Jalen Bundy (Center Grove H.S. 2024/EG10 2024 Red): Unfortunately, I watched EG10 Red’s lone loss of the weekend, but even in defeat this 6’0″ point guard stood out with his strong play. Bundy didn’t get sped up, showed his ability to play through contact off the dribble, and led his team with 16 points in a tightly contested game. Good all-around playmaker.
Amauri Moore (Hammond Central H.S. 2024/EG10 2024): EG10 2024 was one of the most impressive teams in the 16u division at Prep Hoops Live. While the backcourt duo of Lewis & King earned first team honors, 6’5″ forward Moore lands on the second team after dominating the paint throughout the weekend.
Mason Shubert Mason Shubert 6'2" | SG Breese Central | 2024 State IL (Breese Central H.S. 2024/Illinois Bears 2024 Shubert): Shubert consistently scored the basketball for the Illinois Bears. The 6’2″ guard is an excellent perimeter shooter that can get hot in a hurry from beyond the arc.
Patrick Walsh (Benet Academy 2024/Basketball Paradise 2024): Another Basketball Paradise prospect, Walsh started the weekend off right pouring in 18 points in a victory over Rising Stars 2024. The quick, athletic guard showed off his playmaking ability while helping lead his team to a 3-1 performance at Prep Hoops Live.
Third Team
Tareek Galadima (North Central H.S. 2024/D1 Indiana 2024-2)
Dreyln Jones (Leyden H.S. 2024/Chicago Lockdown 2024)
Ryan Runaas Ryan Runaas 6'0" | PG Lemont | 2024 State IL (Mount Carmel H.S. 2024/ET21 Buckeyes 2024)
Sebastian Soriano (Utica H.S. 2024/Michigan Goonies 2023)
Andy Spoelman (Illiana Christian 2024/Team GRIII 2024 Elite)
