April 8-10 I attended the Pangos Sweet-16 event located at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas/NV. Dinos Trigonis hosted the event and he had five pools of 16 teams each creating five "Sweet-16" brackets. (15U, 16U and three 17U divisions).

There was good competition in the 17 and 16U levels, which I primarily focused on.

Here were some of the 17U standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="748764" first="Jeremiah" last="Nyarko"] Sierra Canyon/CA (Belmont Shore)

An explosive power forward is a quick leaper. He has a polished mid range jumper with good elevation and consistency. He rebounds well in and out of his area. His athleticism allows him to dunk on someone. He looks to be a good late pickup.

[player_tooltip player_id="1199505" first="Isaac" last="Garrett"] Pleasant Grove/UT (Salt Lake Rebels Red)

A face-up long forward who is extremely versatile. He can shoot it comfortably to the 3pt line and he can create his own offense to score around the basket. He is very patient and skilled. He also is a very good passer and will block shots with very long arms. His best skill may be his passing and he plays with a mean streak.

Soulemane Barro PF 6’7 2023 Layton Christian/UT (Kongo 17 Red)

A power forward who can shoot it to the 3pt line and in. He has a high motor who rebounds at a good clip and is a very good defender in space. He will get second chance points on the glass and straight line drive. He makes his move to the basket and rises up quickly with his athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id="814038" first="Noah" last="Amenhauser"] Estrella Foothills (Factory) (Pictured)

The top center at the event was easily the Grand Canyon commit Noah. He was constantly double teamed and found the cutters or the open shooters often. He is a next level passer for his position, which besides how big he is, sets him a part from many. He can face-up plus back his defenders down in the paint and score with advanced post footwork. He brought the ball up a lot, as they were short handed, showing his versatility.

[player_tooltip player_id="1116106" first="Brock" last="Felder"] Parowan/UT (Ignited)

A true power forward with strong upper body strength and has some serious springs. He will rebound and block shots. He powers his way and can pull-up from mid-range. He can spring up quickly to rebound, block or go up and attempt a shot. He has very strong hands to rip rebounds away from his opponents on 50/50 balls.

Michael Davis PF 6’6 2023 San Joaquin Memorial/CA (EBO)

An incredible glass cleaner with long arms, strength and has a good base. He is undersized but seems like he has stick em on his hands, as he gobbles up everything near him with his tools and quick second jump. He has become a little more athletic in the last year and can throw it down and works well inside the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="814526" first="Ashton" last="Reese"] Pinnacle (Factory)

The sniper of the Factory team makes it look easy in stretches. He squares up quickly like you should and lets it go quickly. He hits from mid to the 3pt line off the catch, but can do the 1-dribble pull-up just as well. He is very athletic and keeps improving as a ball handler to get to the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="701269" first="Raydon" last="Thorson"] Phhoenix Prep (Simply Fundamental)

A pure pg with the ball on a string. He can thread the needle to his teammates and he is extremely shifty to get the defenders off of him. He can pull-up off the dribble and can get to the rim, but is usually touching the paint and then looking for a teammate. He keeps his dribble alive versus high pressure which makes him valuable. His pick and roll game is top notch and he can hit the deep ball better then last year. He was shockingly playing through a torn labrum.

[player_tooltip player_id="826995" first="Jeremiah" last="Cherry"] St. Mary’s (Player Play Elite)

It would be hard to find a stronger post player then Bear. He looked like he leaned out a little and was throwing the ball down like a golf ball with his huge hands. He dunked one so hard I literally thought the rim was going to come down. He can step out to the 3pt line and score on put backs and hook shots.

[player_tooltip player_id="1384536" first="Owen" last="Mackay"] Snow Canyon/UT (Ignited 17)

A strong framed two-guard who gets downhill with his left or right hand. He can post up using his sturdy frame. He is a good passer and smartly moves without the ball. He can hit he catch-3 or create his own offense off the dribble and is sneaky athletic.
