Here are players I think that could breakout, as we look at the current AAU season, and do an early preview for the coming high school season.
Maayan Fogel, High school Newton North, AAU ASA, Class 2025, Position SF/PF,
Maayan is a versatile player, who has really worked hard on improving his all around skill set. Maayan has a good mid range shot, that he can hit consistently. He also has the ability to post up down low. Maayan is a strong built and a good finisher at the rim. Maayan has also really improved his face up game. Maayan has good court vision, and is a good passer from the perimeter, and down low. Maayan has really been working on his three point shot, so he can become a threat from all areas of the floor. Maayan has bought in on the defensive floor as well. On defensive He is big enough to where he can guard other teams big man, but also agile enough to defend guards out on the perimeter. Maayan takes pride in the fundamentals, and the assistant coach at Newton North described his game as “bully ball”. Maayan also has the intangibles that you can’t teach. He is hard working, coachable, has a good attitude, and is a good teammate. Maayan improved his game, and I expect him to keep improving this spring AAU season, and next high school season.
Andrew Shore Andrew Shore 5'10" | SG Newton South | 2025 New E , High School Newton South, AAU ASA, Position combo G, Class 2025
Andrew is coming off a season at Newton South where he played JV as a freshman. I have seen Andrew play since he was in third grade, and I have seen his game develop over the years. Andrew is known for his sharp shooting ability. Andrew is an efficient three point shooter. He is able to create his own shot, and get his shot off in many ways. Off the dribble, spotting up, and coming off screens. Andrew is not afraid to shoot from anywhere. Andrew can run the point, but also play off the ball as well. Andrew has developed his game, and is not just a shooter. He is able to take the ball off the dribble, and finish at the rim. On Defense Andrew is able to get steals, and does a good job being active in the passing lane. Andrew has a competitive nature to his game. With south loosing a bunch of guards, I expect Andrew to soon be a varsity impact player.
Roee Joseph, Newton South, Position G, AAU ASAA, Class 2026
Roee is coming off a strong high school season playing JV as freshman for Newton South. Roee has reclassified, and is now a member of the 2026 class. Roee is a guard, who can playing point guard and run his teams offense. He can also play the shooting guard, and play off the ball. Roee’s best attributes are his passing, defense, and finishing. Roee has good court vision, and does a good job making the extra pass. Roee can score off the dribble, and does is good finishing at the rim with both hands. He is aggressive attacking the basket, and will draw fouls. On defense he is a good on ball defender, and fights hard through screens. Roee will be a varsity impact player in the future for the lions.
Peter Eliopoulos, Newton South, AAU ASA, Class 2025, Position F
Peter was a freshman on JV at Newton South this past high school season. Peter has a versatile skill set, to go along with his good size, and strong built. Peter has a mix of guards skills, and big man skills. Peter can be a slasher out on the wing, and attack off the dribble. He is a strong finisher at the rim, and can finish through contact. He can also stretch the floor and shoot. On defense he can guard positions 1-5, and is a good shot blocker. Peter’s game has a strong upside, and good potential. Peter will be an impact player at the varsity level.
