Brayden Fagbemim — PG — Illinois Attack 17U
I was able to watch Fagbemim play on Friday night, and I thought that he played very well. But on Sunday morning, the point guard was able to take his play to another level. He did a little bit of everything in Illinois Attack’s win. He made some shots, found open teammates, and overall, just did a great job of running his team’s offense. Fagbemim was no doubt one of the better point guards competing in Chicago this weekend.
Lebron Bennie-Powell Lebron Bennie-Powell 6'2" | SG Lakota East | 2023 State OH — PG — R 4 L 17U
I really like Bennie-Powell’s game. At the point guard position, he is very versatile. He can score, pass, shoot, and defend. I really like how the PG attacked the rim, particularly in the first half. He was very aggressive, not looking to slow down at all with the ball in his hands. He later heated up from deep, as he drilled a handful of tough shots in the second half.
Julian Mitchell Julian Mitchell 6'5" | SF Lakota East | 2023 State OH — SF — R 4 L 17U
Mitchell is a high-potential prospect who really impressed on Saturday morning. In a blowout win for R 4 L, the small forward scored 16 points and showed how good he is. Early in the game, Mitchell was in attack mode. He got to the free throw line twice, converting on all four of his attempts. After that, he showed his sweet stroke from downtown. The small forward made four threes, tallying 16 total points in the winning effort.
Darrin Ames Darrin Ames 6'1" | PG Kenwood | 2023 State #99 Nation IL — PG — Mac Irvin Fire 17U
Ames is going to be a problem at the college level. He stands at just 6-foot-1, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for with pure skill. The point guard is blazing fast in the open floor — there are not many defenders that will be able to stay in front of him. Holding scholarship offers from many high-level Division One programs, Ames is going to make a coaching staff very happy when he commits.
Stefan Cicic Stefan Cicic 7'0" | C Riverside Brookfield | 2024 State IL — C — Mac Irvin Fire 17U
When he is in the game, Cicic dominates. It is that simple. The 6-foot-10 center towers over most of his opponents, that is his first advantage. But he doesn’t just rely on his size. He also has a lot of skill. On the block, Cici is able to use his combination of size and skill to get easy buckets.
Mekhi Doby Mekhi Doby 6'2" | SG Guilford | 2023 State IL — SG — Illinois Elite 17U
Doby is a flat-out bucket getter. The Illinois Elite shooting guard gave opposing defenders fits all weekend at the Chi-Town Tip Off. He is a bigger guard that is able to use his size to get to his spots and score. He has a pretty midrange jumper. When he makes a move and rises up, there is a good chance that Doby’s shot will fall.
Gaven Marr — G — All In Athletics
Marr had one of the better performances of the day when he scored 23 points in All In Athletics’ win. The guard did a little bit of everything. He showed off his pretty outside stroke, drilling three triples. He converted on tough layups through contact. He rebounded well. He played with effort and intensity on the defensive end. I was very impressed by Marr on Sunday.
