Who are some of the top shot blockers around the DMV? Here we’ve constructed a starting five of the top shot-blocker at each position.

Point Guard | Cam Cole | Highland (VA) ’23

Cole is a big guard who is active and alert defensively. He is a terrific athlete who has a knack for finding the ball. Cole plays above the rim and has no problem pinning shots against the glass.

Honorable Mention: [player_tooltip player_id="999637" first="John" last="Awoke"] | National Christian (MD) ’23

Two Guard | Paul Anderson | South County (VA) ’23

Anderson is a long-limbed swingman who has elite defensive potential. He exhibits good foot speed and can block shots at the point of attack but is also a chase-down artist.

Honorable Mention: Anthony Saunders | Edison (VA) ’25

Small Forward | [player_tooltip player_id="1127315" first="Khani" last="Rooths"] | Georgetown Prep (MD) ’24

At around 6-foot-7, Rooths has the potential to be a very disruptive defender. One of the things he does well while on the floor is communicate. Rooths moves well laterally and uses his ridiculous wingspan to block shots with relative ease.

Honorable Mention: [player_tooltip player_id="1362686" first="Kevon" last="Corley"] | Rock Creek (MD) ’23

Power Forward | [player_tooltip player_id="1259631" first="Patrick" last="Ngongba"] | Highland (VA) ’24

The word that comes to mind when watching Ngongba defend is "sentinel". When he is patrolling the paint, it’s very difficult to get easy shots at the rim. Ngongba is light on his feet. He is active and alert on the help side and has long limbs that help him alter and deflect shots routinely.

Honorable Mention: [player_tooltip player_id="1164829" first="Mitchell" last="Kalu"] | Mt. Carmel (MD) ’23

Center | [player_tooltip player_id="1362687" first="Will" last="Patterson"] | Bishop Walsh (MD) ’23

Patterson matched up twice with Miami commit [player_tooltip player_id="777061" first="Favour" last="Aire"] and held his own both times. He is close to 7-feet tall and is robust at the point of attack. Patterson can absorb contact in the chest and wall up without fouling.

Honorable Mention: Jordan McConnell | Woodberry Forest (VA) ’25
