The result was the long and athletic 6-foot-7 swingman got to be part of a deep playoff run for Roosevelt as the Roughriders made it to their first-ever 6A state tournament. They finished things on Saturday picking up the 6th place trophy and while it’s unclear where his basketball journey will lead him next, Seamster is satisfied about how the year ended.
“It felt good as we had a lot of ups and downs this season,” Seamster said. “I’m glad we made it this far and we made our statement. This last game we started off slow but in the second half we came out ready to play.”
While Roosevelt came up short in the 4th/6th place game despite a huge comeback attempt, Seamster did his part with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. This is coming off a consolation round win over Cleveland where the athletic forward recorded 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Seamster’s length and athleticism were effective at both ends during all three of the Roughriders’ games.
As far as the future goes, Seamster remains undecided at this point. He previously held some Division I scholarship offers from the likes of Washington and San Francisco and schools like Idaho State and Portland State are still showing interest. According to Roosevelt head coach Yusuf Leary, national JUCO programs have been in contact. Seamster indicated that he could play AAU ball in the spring but the situation remains fluid.
That will undoubtedly get sorted out as Seamster projects as a college player with plenty of potential. While it seemed to take a bit of time to get into gear after making his debut this season early on in February, by the time state rolled around he looked a lot like his old self and finished the season averaging 10.0 ppg and 4.9 rpg. Seamster is happy he didn’t go through it all alone.
“My guys really helped me through it,” Seamster said. “Without them I’m not sure I would have worked this hard. They pushed me to be the best that I could be and I did it for them.”
Seamster currently ranks as the #1 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
