College Commitment – Avery Johnson (2027 Sherwood)

The Sherwood pipeline to Oregon Tech is well-established and the Hustlin' Owls have tapped it again for their first in-state commitment from the Class of 2028 and the latest Bowmen product headed to OIT is Avery Johnson Avery Johnson 6'1" | CG Sherwood | 2027 State OR . It's a decision the athletic Bowmen senior has been pondering for a little while since making a visit to campus in Klamath Falls a couple of months after the season ended, and this week he made it final.

"I knew that OIT was the right place for me when I went on my visit in May," Johnson said. "Just the way their players and coaches made me and my family welcome - also there values they have, I just wanted to be apart of that winning culture."

As noted the pipeline to Oregon Tech from Sherwood has been present for quite some time. Greats such as Jamison Guerra, Blake Jensen, and Jared Sucher have made K-Falls their collegiate home and recent grad Brody Rygh heading there played a part in Johnson's decision.

"I mean it obviously helps that Brody is going there but I just wanted to put myself first in this situation," Johnson said. "I felt like at OIT I was surrounded by great people on and off the court."

The opportunity to play right away and contribute was also something that was enticing for Johnson. "I'm definitely going to be battling for minutes my freshman year," Johnson said. "I'm not just a scorer so I can see myself getting in there and making the right and smart play, playing great on defense and running the floor really hard."

With his decision out of the way, Johnson can focus in on his senior season - one in which he hopes to lead the Bowmen after Sherwood's historic run last year. "Some individual goals/expectations I have are to get conference POY and First Team All-State again," Johnson said. "I also wanna get back to Chiles Center. We have a young group but a really special group so I have a lot of high expectations for us this season!"
