The state tournament is finally here with Groups 2 and 4 getting started yesterday. Non-Public B starts out tomorrow and it has teams filled with talent and expectations for deep state tournament runs. Here are the X-Factors for Non-Public teams.

[player_tooltip player_id="1050409" first="Richard" last="Brisco"], 6’8 PF Roselle Catholic 2024

The Lions are looking to repeat as Non-Public B North champions and Brisco’s presence in the paint will be key. The 6’8 forward works hard on both ends of the floor and is tough to keep off the offensive glass. Brisco uses his athleticism to swat shots around the basket and holds his ground in post defense. He has a nice touch around the basket and shows a nice release on his free throws. Brisco is a high-energy forward prospect whose ability to block shots around the basket will be key to Roselle Catholic’s state run.

[player_tooltip player_id="1269773" first="Geancarlo" last="Peguero"], 6’5 SF Gill St. Bernard’s 2023

Peguero had a big game for the Knights in the Somerset County Tournament final and is looking to carry it over into the state tournament. The 6’5 wing is an athletic wing who is at his best attacking the basket as he can finish above the rim strong and draw contact. Peguero has a nice touch in the paint and is capable of knocking down open jumpers on the perimeter. He skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor and moves well within the flow of the offense. Peguero has the ability to put up big scoring numbers for Gill St. Bernard’s throughout the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="931033" first="Jameel" last="Morris"], 6’1 CG Trenton Catholic 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="1050395" first="Deuce" last="Jones"] is the go-to guy on the perimeter for the Iron Mikes, but Morris is an integral part to their success. The 6’1 guard attacks the basket with a purpose as he is a good finisher and can muscle shots through contact. Morris is more than just a slasher as he can also score in the mid-range and can make opponents pay for giving him space on the perimeter. He is a tough on-ball defender and skies for rebounds at both ends of the floor. Morris is a gritty guard prospect who is set to have a big state tournament for Trenton Catholic.

Parker Neuenhaus, 6’6 PF Saddle River Day 2023

Neuenhaus has been a consistent presence down low for the Rebels and it should continue in the state tournament. The 6’6 lefty has a strong frame which he uses to get position down low and can finish through contact. Neuenhaus can also play on the perimeter as his range extends out to the three-point line and has an underrated handle. He is tough to box out at both ends of the floor and uses his size to hold his ground on the interior. Neuenhaus’ ability to affect the offense in multiple ways is something that will help Saddle River Day in a big way this state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="901965" first="Charles" last="Anyichie"], 6’7 PF Ranney School 2022

Anyichie is the defensive anchor for the Panthers and will have to continue to do so in the state tournament. The 6’7 forward plays with a motor that does not stop and is unafraid of diving on the floor for loose balls. Anyichie uses his athleticism to swat shots and altars many more with his length. He fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor and sets good screens in the halfcourt.
