Upset City. The only lower seed to be a high seed yesterday was Red Rock Central defeating Adrian/Ellsworth 60-58. Six-foot-3 Red Rock senior Joe Strock scored 21 points leading a balanced effort into the next round. RRC will face Southwest Minnesota Central tomorrow in a 10am game at Worthington High School (full day of 3A games there).
Playoff Central. For the most part everybody that was expected to win last night, moved on. Games were in 1A, 1AA, and 3A last night. Tonight there are just four games but Saturday we have some locations (Worthington and Montevideo) that are hosting four contests so if you want to see playoff basketball in western or southern Minnesota, those are the places to go!
The Big Stage. There are only four games tonight and all of those games are in Section 2A. The biggest name competing tonight is Ja’Sean Glover and Madelia facing Cleveland. These are first round playoff games as these eight teams try and join the other twelve that all qualified for a bye into the next round.
Top Performers. Junior Sawyer Drent scored 24 last night helping Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda defeat Edgerton by 28 points. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda is a team I thought could have a huge season this year and maybe a playoff run is possible. They do have to take on RTR tomorrow though.
After pushing ahead 46-21 early, Lyle/Austin Pacelli were scared as Fillmore Central got within a point late in the second half. The Athletics won 78-70 behind Buay Koak Buay Koak 6'4" | SG Lyle-Pacelli | 2023 State MN ’s 30 points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots, but there was definitely an upset scare coupled with a big time performance.
Isaac Matti Isaac Matti 6'1" | SG Hayfield | 2023 State MN scored 23 as Hayfield crushed Wabasha-Kellogg 84-46.
Tip of the Hat to the Career. Peyton Lewis Peyton Lewis 6'6" | SG Adrian-Ellsworth | 2022 MN of Adrian. Peyton is a 6’6 skilled wing that puts up constant double-doubles, scores at 20 a game, handles and creates for his team, and can shoot it. The biggest player on the floor and the guy that does everything on the floor. Several time all league honored player.
