In 49 states it is just basketball, but this is Indiana. The 112th annual IHSAA Boy’s Basketball Tournament tipped off this week and Prep Hoops Indiana has been in the gym as always to bring you coverage from across the state. This was my second night being out in the gym this week for Sectionals and made a stop to North Central for the loaded Sectional 10 which featured Cathedral vs North Central followed by Lawrence Central vs Arsenal Tech. Here is a breakdown of both games.

Cathedral 76 North Central 68

Right out the gate, the news broke that North Central’s stud SG [player_tooltip player_id="868259" first="Joey" last="Brown"] was going to be out due to an injury he suffered in the game vs Center Grove a couple weeks back. With that news, one would have easily expected the Marion County Tournament champs to fold and the loaded Cathedral to walk all over them. Often times throughout the game, Cathedral would make a run but North Central would always find ways to get back into it.

The first half saw exactly what I just talked about. Big plays from [player_tooltip player_id="868219" first="Xavier" last="Booker"], [player_tooltip player_id="1063971" first="Jaxon" last="Edwards"], [player_tooltip player_id="870212" first="Tayshawn" last="Comer"], and [player_tooltip player_id="868251" first="Jake" last="Davis"] would spark a run then [player_tooltip player_id="870231" first="David" last="Lloyd"] or [player_tooltip player_id="1173731" first="Davis" last="Olson"] would make a play and the Panthers would build off it. When the second half came, it was the dominant third quarter of [player_tooltip player_id="868252" first="Jaron" last="Tibbs"], who had 16 of his 18 pts in second half, that in the long term proved to be something that North Central could not overcome. Cathedral went smaller the last 7 min of the game with Booker on the bench and North Central just ran out of time.

Tibbs led Cathedral with 18 pts while Lloyd led with 15 pts.

Arsenal Tech 80 Lawrence Central 57

In all honesty, this game was pretty much over from the start as Lawrence Central just did not have the talent to match up with Arsenal Tech. Tech was without head coach Damon Turner who was suspended after IHSAA inquiry into past-link violation, but when you have players like [player_tooltip player_id="1006434" first="Reggie" last="Bass"], [player_tooltip player_id="769679" first="Matt" last="Spears"], [player_tooltip player_id="870218" first="Dayveon" last="Turner"], [player_tooltip player_id="643490" first="Rasheed" last="Jones"], and Antonio Lisenbee Jr. as your main guys, there is not too much you have worry about. It just simply looked as though Tech was having fun out there. They were playing fast, making defensive plays, and the type of passes Bass was making was leaving my jaw on the floor. About halfway through the third quarter, this one was out of reach for Lawrence Central. Jones had a game high 25 pts and teammate Turner had 14. [player_tooltip player_id="868233" first="Joshua" last="Mickens"] led Lawrence Central with 14 pts.
