Jamestown, ND - ECI had tryouts on Saturday evening for their 16U age group. The tryouts were held at the glamorous Newman Arena on the campus of the University of Jamestown. They had players show up from across the state. It was fun to see a good mix of class A and B players compete against each other. They had plenty of size, athletes, shooters, and skilled players in the gym. It looks like ECI will have three teams at the 16U level. Keep your eyes out for Team Previews in the coming weeks on all of the ECI squads.

I was able to watch the tryouts and see some impressive players. It was a big group so I may have missed a few players on this list. ECI was also missing a few players from the tryouts because of the Class B State Tournament going on and the Moorhead Spuds qualified for State in Minnesota. Read below for the Standouts from Saturday.

STANDOUTS

[player_tooltip player_id="1168180" first="Jaxson" last="Miller"] |5-8 G| WF Sheyenne

He stood out to me as a spark-plug and a high-energy player. Miller was leaving it all out on the court on Saturday. He has quick feet which will make him a pesky on-ball defender. Look for Miller to push the tempo in transition and to be a facilitator on offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1161538" first="Dalton" last="Lamp"] |6-0 G| Jamestown

I liked his effort on defense, Lamp would cut off a dribbler and "wall-up". He made an impressive hustle play that resulted in a blocked shot. He stood out during the skills portion with excellent handles. Dalton dropped multiple dimes when slashing and driving. His jump shot also looked good.

[player_tooltip player_id="1164103" first="Tate" last="Parson"] |5-9 G| Grand Forks Red River

He looks to be a very serious shooting threat from beyond the arc. Tate looks to be effective in transition. Parson also moved his feet well on defense.

He stood out as one of the top athletes in the gym. Race is physical, very strong, and explosive. I could see him being a lockdown defender. When attacking the basket on Saturday, Wilson had a few beautiful touch-passes that led to easy buckets for his teammates. Race also shot the ball well from downtown. In the scrimmage, Wilson hit multiple catch-n-shoot 3-balls with smooth shooting form.

[player_tooltip player_id="1164792" first="Riley" last="Rahr"] |6-3 SG| WF Sheyenne

He is a long wing that can cause problems in passing lanes and he can board up. Riley shoots it well from deep and he can score in the lane via slashing. Rahr will be a versatile player for his squad.

[player_tooltip player_id="1164105" first="Turo" last="Moni"] |6-6 F| WF Sheyenne

He is a big, strong, and wide body. He will provide size and strength on defense for his team. Moni is a soft-shooting big man. Turo likes to let them fly from 3-point land, and he is proficient at knocking them down. He will help stretch the floor and open driving lanes for his teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1164795" first="Colby" last="Walter"] |6-3 SG| WF Sheyenne

He will provide toughness, size, and post defense for his team. Walter is a physical rebounder that will do the little things for his team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1164096" first="Zach" last="Oehlke"] |6-1 G| Grand Forks Red River

He looks to be a bigger & stronger player from last year. Oehlke has become filled out and will be a more physical player compared to last AAU season. He will be a versatile guard and Zach shoots it well from the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1411320" first="Wylee" last="Delorme"] (2024) |6-4 G| Devils Lake

[player_tooltip player_id="1161537" first="Isaiah" last="Williams"] |5-10 G| Horace

He has good handles, Isaiah is a quick and fast player. Williams penetrates gaps, sets up others, and he can score in the lane. Williams can also cash in 3-pointers. He can run the PG or play on the wing and be a playmaker.

Oliver Jensen |6-1 G| Bismarck Century

He stood out as a strong and physical backcourt player. Jensen is an impressive athlete. He will provide toughness, slashing, and shooting.

[player_tooltip player_id="1161540" first="Bode" last="Hoeg"] |6-0 G| Fargo North

He will be one of the lead guards and primary ballhandlers for his team. Bode showed a quality turnaround baby-hook in the paint. He impressed me with a drive across the lane and he finished it with a smooth finger-roll. He also hit a nice 10-foot one-handed jumper. Hoeg can score but he is also a leader and an excellent communicator.

David Schilling |6-3 SF| Fargo North

He stood out as an impressive long athlete. David had many athletic drives and finishes. He was one of the best slashers I saw on Saturday. Schilling can also finish above the rim and slam it home. He will be a fun player to watch for ECI.

Kale Schommer |6-2 G/F| Bismarck Century

He is a nice athlete with good length. Schommer stood with his effort, hustle, and energy. Schommer also finished well around the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id="1145145" first="Peter" last="Havelka"] |6-4 F| Davies

He will provide size, interior defense, rebounding, and rim-protecting for his team. Peter finished well at the rim. He showed a sweet baby hook from the baseline. I was impressed with how hard Havelka ran the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1168165" first="Carson" last="Eggert"] |5-9 G| Valley City

He is a quick guard with fluid handles and sharp passes. I like the way he puts pressure on the defense with the bounce. Eggert looks like he could be a serious shooting threat from three-point land.

[player_tooltip player_id="1146180" first="Jace" last="Jochim"] |6-0 SG| Linton/HMB

He will be one of the top 3-point shooters in this age group. Jochim hit 3-pointers from beyond college range depth. He showed perfect shooting form and a smooth release. Jace will keep defenses honest and stretch the floor for his teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167610" first="Matthew" last="Sem"] |6-1 SG| Fargo North

He is a freshman that was playing up a grade on Saturday. Sem is a special athlete that moves at a different level. Matthew is very bouncy and he is a playmaker. Sem looked great shooting the ball from beyond the arc in catch-n-shoot situations.

[player_tooltip player_id="1168192" first="Lucas" last="Kupfer"] |6-4 SF| Bimarck Legacy

He is very long and athletic. Kupfer showed off his athleticism with a breakaway slam dunk. This lefty was impressive. Lucas was stroking the 3-ball with precision. He also looked good when attacking downhill. Kupfer will be a versatile and dynamic player for his team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1161534" first="Drew" last="Hofstad"] |6-0 G| Devils Lake

This kid can really shoot it! Every time I looked, Hofstad was knocking down a triple. He looked especially good from the left-wing and corner. Drew has clean footwork and a quick release. Look out for this 3-point assassin.

[player_tooltip player_id="1144600" first="Carter" last="Zeller"] |6-6 PF| Fargo North

He is a beast, to say the least. Carter was dominant in the paint with rebounding and scoring. He is a strong and super-physical player. Zeller’s patience, head fakes, and finishing were impressive. His toughness and physicality will be tough to match for any team this spring/summer.

He was one of the most impressive players from Saturday. Wow, this kid is an athlete! He runs like a deer, is very explosive, and can hammer home dunks with authority. Conklin was ubiquitous on defense and on the boards. He is going to be a stud this spring/summer. Look out for [player_tooltip player_id="1168194" first="Logan" last="Conklin"]!

[player_tooltip player_id="1317710" first="James" last="Hamilton"] |6-4 SF| Fargo South

He was a scoring machine on Sunday. Hamilton is deadly off the bounce with many impressive moves in his bag of tricks. His handles and shake left defenders in the dust. James hit many short jumpers in the lane and he scores at the cup. Hamilton plays hard and he is aggressive. He is a tough matchup as he can play inside and out.
