Then Edmond North’s hungry group of youngsters built a big second half lead and held off a Jenks rally to advance to the finals.
Top Performers
TO Barrett TO Barrett 6'4" | SG Link Academy | 2024 #138 Nation MO , 6’3 Sophomore Guard, Edmond North
At the start of the year, Barrett was a raw athlete showing occasionally flashes of being dangerous off the dribble in the halfcourt. Throughout the season with each viewing he looked more comfortable with his lead guard duties. Showing more flashes and teasing at a high ceiling. There’s still fine tuning to do, he is only a sophomore after all, but under the bright lights of the Lloyd Noble Center Barrett shined ever brighter.
At times there was nothing Jenks could do to keep him out of the lane. His ballhandling ability has started to improve to match his tantalizing combination of strength and quickness. This was most evident to end the third quarter. He went on a personal 7-2 run to end the quarter. It started with a pull up 3 pointer. The next possession it was a tough and strong finish through contact. Then he nailed a pull up jumper to end the quarter. Tomorrow the sophomore has a stern test against the best backcourt in the State, but he’ll be entering it on a new high after a 16 point performance.
Dylan Warlick Dylan Warlick 6'6" | SF Edmond North | 2024 State #226 Nation OK , 6’6 Sophomore Forward, Edmond North
The “Mr Fundamental” of Oklahoma prep basketball, Warlick plays with a savvy beyond his years. He finished with a ridiculous line of 20 points and 18 rebounds. It also came with a very efficient shooting performance of 7-11 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc. Huge stat lines like that are now common place for the sophomore even while playing at Oklahoma’s high classification.
Warlick wins with relentless effort down low and a great understanding of positioning. Two promising aspects tonight showed the continually evolution of his game. The aforementioned three pointers made are a sign he’s expanding his game. While also being more comfortable as a driver, with good takes off the dribble. Given his high IQ, tenacity and improving skillset, the sophomore is starting to be more a hybrid forward/wing. All while retaining the elite rebounding and competitiveness that makes him such an effective post player.
Ben Averitt Ben Averitt 6'5" | SF Jenks | 2022 State OK , 6’6 Senior Forward, Jenks
The senior left it all on the floor with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He’s also been a very effective post player with his combination of athleticism, strength and finishing ability. That finishing ability was on display tonight. Along with the improvements he’s made as a senior with improved ball handling and more wing type skills. The unsigned senior’s high school career may have ended tonight, but he gave a fantastic account of himself. And should be a top option for JuCos and D2s in Oklahoma and around the region.
Jayden Cincotta Jayden Cincotta 6'1" | SG Edmond Santa Fe | 2023 State OK , 6’1 Junior Guard, Edmond Santa Fe
The crafty junior stepped up with all 10 of his points coming in the second half. He nailed a pair of corner threes. Then in the final frame on back to back possessions. One was a tough pull up in the mid-range, while the other was a nice tear drop that floated in over the outstretched arms of Bulldog defenders. This is the second this year we’ve seen the young man come up big when it mattered most in a big rivalry game.
Will Cain Will Cain 6'6" | F Edmond Memorial | 2022 OK , 6’6 Senior Forward, Edmond Memorial
The senior continued to be a versatile weapon for the Bulldogs. Against the Santa Fe zone at times he operated in the high post and knocked down a midrange jumper to go along with his scoring around the rim. He even was comfortable putting it on the floor to hit a floater when ran off the line. Cain finished with a team high 12 points on 6-9 shooting.
