Check out my analysis on the top prospects that are left in the Texas 6A State Playoffs! In this article, we will check out the players who have been getting it done all season in the 6A Region 1 matchups featuring Duncanville, Cypress Ranch, Garland and Cypress Falls!

Region 2: https://prephoops.com/2022/03/best-prospects-from-2022-6a-regional-semi-finals-region-2/

Region 3: https://prephoops.com/2022/03/best-prospects-from-2022-6a-regional-semi-finals-region-3/

Region 4: https://prephoops.com/2022/03/best-prospects-from-2022-6a-regional-semi-finals-region-4/

Duncanville High School vs Cypress Ranch High School

Duncanville High School:

[player_tooltip player_id="787336" first="Ronald" last="Holland"] 2023 6’8 Duncanville High School

Ron is one of the many supremely talented junior’s Duncanville has to offer, the lanky wing has all the tools in his bag to dominate his opponents from all three levels on the floor. He has incredibly long arms and great athleticism, which allows him to seemingly catch any lob thrown his way. He dominates in the paint using his size, agility and athleticism to beat his opponents to a spot and rising over them to flush it with ease. I am most impressed with the consistency he finishes underneath the rim, it does not always need to be a thunderous dunk to get his two points. He has great body control and contort his body around defenders, and finish on either side of the rim. He is great at hanging around in the dunkers spot on the floor and waiting for his time to flash to the rim and seal off his defender for an easy look. He runs the floor with purpose as well, always seems to be in the right spot and not crowing his guards as they race up the floor. His consistent rim running ability allows him to easily pick up buckets in transition. The way that this team passes the ball on the fast break looks like a fluid college level program and it allows Holland to get effortless looks at the rim almost every time down. The 6’8 junior already boasts offers from Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, and Memphis. Duncanville beat Shoemaker, Rockwall Heath, and Desoto to get here.

[player_tooltip player_id="787319" first="Cameron" last="Barnes"] 2023 6’10 Duncanville High School

Cameron has been getting the comparison to Kevin Durant for a few years now, and just a few moments in the gym it is not hard to find out why the 6’10 junior has NBA comparisons already. He has incredibly long arms that allow him to rise over defenders on his jumper, but more importantly to protect the rim. His ability to shut down anything that happens in the paint allows Duncanville to have success on any given night. Barnes is a real rim protector and knows how to time up shots off the back board. He and [player_tooltip player_id="787336" first="Ronald" last="Holland"] are a real one-two punch on the fast break and their length and ability to dominate in the paint strikes fear into the heart of their opponents. It seems that on any missed shot, this team accurately makes the right outlet passes to set up one of their two big men for an easy look flying down the lane. Barnes has all the tools to be dominant at the next level, and it will be interesting to see where he chooses to go next year. Expect Barnes and Holland to push to make basketball a real profession. Duncanville beat Shoemaker High School, Rockwall Heath High School, and Desoto High School to get here.

[player_tooltip player_id="1052080" first="Davion" last="Sykes"] 2022 6’5 Duncanville High School

Davion is a supremely athletic wing who does all of the little things to help Duncanville win, his intensity when defending his opponents seems to always force them to dribble off their own foot or turn the ball over. He has long arms and plays the game with a real tenacity. He is a consistent finisher on the fast break and always seems to finish every look at the rim, even as he is attacking the cup at full speed. He is a great rebounder for his size, and has no problem doing the dirty work and banging down low with larger forwards to snatch any opportunity. He is also great off the ball, and always seems to be moving and lulling his defender to sleep. His consistent motion and ability to dominate on the block for his size is incredibly impressive. It is clear Sykes has a high basketball IQ and working within this Duncanville system has done tremendous things for his development as a basketball player. Sykes is going to form a real one-two punch over at Texas State next year with the supremely athletic Shawn Jones of Shadow Creek High School. Duncanville beat Shoemaker High School, Rockwall Heath High School, and Desoto High School to get here.

Cypress Ranch High School:

[player_tooltip player_id="1052160" first="Dubem" last="Muoneke"] 2022 6’5 Cypress Ranch High School
Dubem is a surprisingly athletic wing who can do it all for his team on both ends of the floor. He is the definition of a paint beast, whether that is throwing down thunderous dunks, rejecting shots at the rim or clearing the glass and starting the fast break. He even displayed an impressive handle, ability to move and also get downhill with a live dribble. It was fun watching him create much like Giannis does in the league; putting his head down and running you over to get to his spot. I was really blown away by his all around game. He looks like he is extremely capable of transitioning into a wing at the next level. Cypress Ranch has beat Tomball Memorial, Aldine Nimitz and Langham Creek and is now set to take on Duncanville.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPDg4UflXOc

Mike Hawkins 2022 6’0 Cypress Ranch High School

Mike is an uber-athletic guard who might have one of the best leaping abilities in the state of Texas. His ability to explode to the rim and finish had his opponents in awe. He uses his explosiveness to get by defenders in the paint and with a live dribble as well. He is lightning quick and very shifty with a live dribble. It was impressive watching him create offense for his team, and he has a real connection with fellow senior Muoneke. The two form a frightening one-two punch for Cypress Ranch and will keep its opponent’s on its toes for as far as they go in the playoffs! Cypress Ranch has beat Tomball Memorial, Aldine Nimitz and Langham Creek and is now set to take on Duncanville.

Colby Rasberry 2022 6’2 Cypress Ranch High School

Colby is an athletic shooting guard who can operate the point guard role if necessary. He has a great two man game with fellow senior big man Muoneke who loves running the floor with him for easy looks at the rim. Colby’s ability to get downhill and put pressure on the defense in the paint really opened up the floor for his teammates. His ability to get into the paint and fearlessly take on the other team’s big men, and a few times finishing through the contact to finish the “And-1.” Rasberry possesses good size for the guard position, and should be able to realistically defend all types of guards at the next level. I would like to see him work on his ability to get to his midrange pull up and consistency with his shot off the dribble.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nag9PUz4J-U

Cypress Falls vs Garland

Cypress Falls High School

[player_tooltip player_id="1052155" first="Jesaiah" last="McWright"] 2022 6’4 Cypress Falls High School

Jesaiah is the star of the show for Cypress Falls. He has an ability to score at will at all three levels, it was especially fun to watch him work to get to his spots in the midrange. He is extremely comfortable at getting to his shot in the midrange, it was a very high percentage and consistent option for Cypress Falls. He is great at getting downhill and can euro step his way out of trouble in the paint. He even had one play where he euro stepped into a dunk in transition that shut down the gym! His ability to create for his teammates was very impressive, however when they did not have it going he was comfortable stepping up and scoring at will. His ability to take over the game propelled his team to a district championship over Cypress Ranch, and now to playoff success as they are set to face Garland High School.

Joseph Tugler 2023 6’8 Cypress Falls High School

Joseph is an aware big who does not only have the ability to punish you with his back to the basket, but with his ability to pick apart the defenses with his passes. The ball never sticks to him, and he passes out of double teams with ease. He garners a lot of offensive attention with his size, especially against smaller teams. He is a capable scorer in the paint, and knows how to seal off his opponent under the rim. He is a capable shooter for his size, and loves acting as the trailer man on the fast break. On defense, he is great at sliding over to protect the rim. His defenders are allowed to be more aggressive on the perimeter, knowing they are funneling their opponent into such a strong defender in the paint. Tugler sure will have his hands full against the stout big men of Garland High School.

Xavier Scott 2022 6’0 Cypress Falls High School

Xavier is a leader for Cypress Falls at the point guard position. He can easily set up offense and always manages to fire accurate passes to his teammates. He is great at setting them up for some high percentage looks when he attacks the rim and draws a second defender. His unselfishness and willingness to set up his team really allows them to make the right extra pass for an even better shot. The way they pass the ball is contagious and it will allow them to pick apart some high level defenses in the playoffs.

Garland High School

[player_tooltip player_id="889569" first="Zuby" last="Ejiofor"] 2022 6’6 Garland High School

Zuby is a do it all forward who has the length, strength and grit that coaches just cannot teach. He has an incredibly high motor which allows him to fly around the court on the defensive end wreaking havoc. He is great at harassing other forwards on the block, and moving them out of position with his strength. He has the foot speed and agility to guard wings on the perimeter and force them to give it up before he takes away every passing angle with his length. He packs a punch in the paint on the offensive end of the floor, dominating smaller players with his back to the basket. He is great on the perimeter as well, and knows how to use the attention he garners to create space on the back side for his teammates to cut off the ball. He is an accurate passer out of the post and had some great finds to his cutting teammates. Zuby and his brother (Chuks Ejiofor, 2023) have been giving teams all they can handle in the paint and I am interested to see how they handle the ever increasing competition in the playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1155434" first="Kobe" last="Bratton"] 2022 6’3 Garland High School

Kobe is a dynamic playmaker who takes pride in setting up his big men for easy looks as he works to stretch the floor and keep the defense honest from the perimeter. He is a high level passer out of the pick and roll and always seems to have his head up finding teammates cutting back door. On defense, he has a real nose for the ball and seems to have a 6th sense on where the ball is going next. As soon as he notices his opponent is in trouble handling his team’s length, he is immediately scanning the floor for the most likely pass and makes a beeline for it. His awareness allows his team to run in transition and create looks on the other end.
