Terrence Brown Terrence Brown 6'0" | PG Columbia Heights | 2022 State MN (6’1 2022 PG, Columbia Heights)- Terrence continues to deliver in big games for Columbia Heights this season, and on Wednesday night it was with a game high 21 points to defeat Hopkins. Terrence is one of the best in the state at finishing in traffic, as he can contort his body to score with either hand in traffic, and knows just the right amount of spin on the ball to convert on tough looks. Whether it was sprinting ahead in transition, beating his man with a backdoor cut, or attacking off the dribble, Terrence continuously found ways to get to the rim and make an impact with his scoring. His three point shot wasn’t falling, but Brown still shot 8-14 from the field, as well as converting on all five of his free throws. Add in 6 rebounds and 4 assists, and it was a strong performance for Columbia Heights’ point guard.
Andrew Scoggins (6’6 2022 F, Columbia Heights)- Facing off against a pair of D1 offered forwards for Hopkins, Andrew was dominant defending around the rim. He’s the type of scrappy, hardworking player that every good team needs, as he doesn’t care how much he touches the ball on offense, he just wants to make winning plays. Defensively he excels at going straight up to block/contest shots without fouling, and against Hopkins he showcased great timing on his jumps to disrupt everything around the rim. Also fought through size to come up with rebounds, and always made sure to secure possession before finding a teammate with the ball. Offensively he was 5-6 from the field, and on his only miss he got the offensive board and put it right back up. Does a great job of keeping his hands ready to catch when rolling to the basket, and is able to go up balanced to score with either hand. Finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks in the big win.
Jayden Moore (5’10 2026 PG, Hopkins)- The eighth grader was Hopkins’ leading scorer against Columbia Heights, showcasing his quickness on the ball and shooting touch from three. He has a really quick release to get his shot off with limited space, and on Wednesday he knocked down a handful of threes as he finished with 15 points. Plays with the poise and maturity of an upperclassman on the ball, as he’s unfazed by pressure and can weave in and out of traffic.
Miles Bollinger (6’ 2024 G, Cretin-Derham Hall)- Miles has really stepped up into a big role for CDH this year. The sophomore is a great shot-maker, with the ability to score off of limited dribbles. Can catch an offensive board in the lane and go up for the short jumper, or relocate on the perimeter and hit the open three. He doesn’t force up any bad shots, and when you consider how much talent is around him, that’s a great trait to have as he has to be efficient with his looks. Finished with 12 points on 4-7 shooting in a win.
Donavhan Cain (6’5 SG, Cretin-Derham Hall)- The senior guard out of Beloit, Wisconsin was making plays on both ends of the floor last night. With Park’s frontcourt size, Donavhan spent a lot of time defending in the post and he found success using his length and quick burst off the floor to defend on the block. Grabbed seven rebounds with authority, and was also running the floor hard to score in transition. Cain showcased his ability to knock down shots from three and mid-range, as well as his explosiveness with an alley-oop dunk in transition. Finished with 13 points including some key buckets in the second half.
Evan Bearth Evan Bearth 6'4" | SF Park of Cottage Grove | 2022 State MN (6’4 2022 F, Park of Cottage Grove)- Evan was on fire in the first half, knocking down four 3’s in a matter of minutes as he gave his team an early lead. Does a great job of relocating after entering the ball into the post, or floating into open space when there’s a post touch on the opposite side of the floor. That off-ball movement led to a handful of open looks from deep, and his reliable shooting touch was on display as he hit those shots at a high rate. Combine his shooting touch with his size and strength at 6’4, and you have a promising prospect.
Brady Perryman (6’1 2022 G, Park of Cottage Grove)- Really liked the way that Brady competed on defense last night against a nationally ranked point guard. Was picking up at the half-court line and not giving up an inch of space as he was constantly applying pressure. Has some size and strength to take some bumps as his man tries to drive, and the quickness to cut him off and force him to change directions. Offensively he was a reliable ball handler who showed he can get to the basket or knock down the outside shot on his way to 9 points.
