We’re gradually filling out the 2024 rankings based on who we’ve seen during the summer and school year, plus statistics and reports from coaches across the state.

Five bigs played their way into the rankings this update by playing important roles on their high school teams. Check out these new additions:

24 [player_tooltip player_id="1378441" first="Gus" last="Hawkins"], 6’6 power forward, 2024 Scott Community:

Hawkins was a solid contributor as a freshman, averaging 5.4 points and 4.0 boards. So he was on the radar prior to this season. Now he’s producing 13.6 points and 6.9 boards as a sophomore. Hawkins’ consistency has been impressive. He’s scored in double figures in nearly every game this season.

28 [player_tooltip player_id="1378442" first="Tory" last="Homan"], 6-foot-5 center, 2024, Maize South (pictured):

The Mavericks are led by some of the best sophomores in the state, including point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1172929" first="Michael" last="Kates"]. Homan is a big man willing to battle in traffic. He is providing toughness and size to the Mavericks, who are exceeding expectations this season. Homan is currently averaging 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest.

33 [player_tooltip player_id="1155933" first="Nash" last="Johnsen"], 6-foot-6 center, 2024, Conway Springs:

The Cardinals are putting together a really nice season, and Johnsen is a big reason why. He is a big presence who can score and defend the rim. His hard work and motor will make him a big man to watch.

34 [player_tooltip player_id="1378445" first="Deven" last="Butler"], 6-foot-3 small forward, 2024, Maize South:

Another sophomore from Maize South, Butler has missed some games, but when he’s available, he is one of the leading scorers and rebounders on the 12-4 team. Maize South should be tough for the next couple of seasons with this current group.

35 [player_tooltip player_id="1378446" first="Carson" last="Shimer"], 6-3 power forward, 2024, Dighton:

Dighton is ranked sixth in 1A Div. II in large part due to the play of Shimer. He’s a highly productive sophomore, with 15.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists and 2.1 blocks per game.
