A year ago, Hawkins looked like one of the best big men in the small school ranks, averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds for 3A Scott Community High School. But he transferred to Mill Valley for his junior season and blew up as a football prospect. In November, the 240-pound offensive lineman became the first K-State football commit of the 2024 class. It wasn’t certain if Hawkins would play basketball for Mill Valley, nor was it known just how his skills would translate to the 5A level. But the big man is earning more time and opportunity. Despite the presence of a lot of long athletes on the roster, Hawkins is a true post who can provide muscle. He scored 16 points in a recent win over Spring Hill.
