Kyle Hrncir Kyle Hrncir 6'4" | PF Farmington | 2022 State MN (6’5 2022 SF, Farmington)- Though already committed to Upper Iowa for both hoops and baseball, Kyle deserves a ton of recognition for his performance. Not only did he scored 25 points and break 1,000 for his career, but Kyle came in and limited a 20 ppg scorer to just three field goals. His combination of size, strength, and mobility make him a versatile defender that can move his feet on the wing or hold his ground in the paint. Offensively he was catching in the high post or on the wing, and was able to dribble his way into a post up. Once in the paint he was nearly automatic, as he showcased excellent touch with either hand and had a quick spin move to create open looks. Was so efficient scoring 20 first half points and barely playing in the second half.
Devin Williams (6’2 2022 W, Fridley)- The physical senior guard powered his way to 20 points in a win for Fridley last night. He showed some inside-out game, combining a few three point makes with strong finishes in the paint on his way to a game high 20. Devin was relentless on the glass on both ends of the floor, and showcased the strength to secure possession in traffic. His second leap allowed him to quickly go back up for two points, but he wasn’t forcing it if there were too many defenders around him. Towards the end of the game he had a great pass from the corner hitting a cutting teammate towards the basket for a bucket that helped seal the game.
Henry Buchanan Henry Buchanan 7'0" | C Burnsville | 2024 MN (7′ 2024 C, Burnsville)- Henry still has progress to be made defensively, but he was a bright spot on offense for Burnsville on Monday night. In the second half he scored three straight buckets for his team, as he did a great job of keeping the ball high and away from smaller defenders before simply turning over his shoulder and scoring with touch from either hand. When he was able to get post touches he was extremely efficient, as he’s a good finisher, and does well to not force up unbalanced shots. He also had two assists, one a kickout to an open shooter, and the other after facing up at the elbow and passing it over his man to a cutting teammate. Henry added in a baseline jumper at the end of the game for his 13 points. Buchanan is a hard worker on defense, and as he continues to add strength and work on his quickness, it should allow him to get into spots to make plays as a shot blocker down the road. High potential from possibly the tallest player in the state.
Bronell Marcus Bronell Marcus 6'5" | SG Fridley | 2023 State MN (6’4 2023 F, Fridley)- Couldn’t find any heights listed, so estimating about 6’4 for Bronell. He has a long and mobile frame to make plays on both ends of the floor. Offensively he did a nice job in the dunker spot, making some quick cuts in for a pair of buckets through contact. He also flashed some ability on the wing, hitting a three and also attacking a closeout into a finish at the rim. Because of his long and mobile frame he has the ability to guard on the wing, or compete in the paint for he’s a high effort rebounder. Finished the game with 11 points in a win.
Emmett Johnson Emmett Johnson 5'11" | PG Holy Angels | 2022 State MN (6′ 2022 PG, Holy Angels)- Minnesota’s most recent Mr. Football has also been playing varsity hoops since middle school. After a slow start last night, Holy Angels began pressing late in the game and that’s when Emmett started making plays. He scored four or five times late, all at the rim, including a few transition finishes where he was able to show off his speed in the open floor. Against a zone defense he made some plays floating around the free throw line, able to face up and power his way to the rim. His passing vision showed in transition and as an inbounder, as he racked up 7 assists to go along with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals.
Sam Hoffman Sam Hoffman 6'3" | SG Farmington | 2022 State MN (6’3 2022 SG, Farmington)- Sam is one of those players who you simply can’t lose track of on defense. He’s so active without the ball, and if he gets an inch of space he’s going to let it fly from three. Against Burnsville that resulted in 21 points during limited playing time of the blowout win. Hoffman does a great job of getting his body squared up immediately after the catch, allowing him to step into his shot, receive the ball, and fire away all in one fluid motion. Whether it was from three or mid-range, Sam had no problem getting a shot up over a defender, and they were falling at a high percentage on Monday night. One of the best pure shooters in the state who never seems to get rattled on the floor.
Mason Scroggins (6′ 2023 G, Holy Angels)- Mason was on fire in the first half, knocking down four three pointers, including an and-one from the corner as part of his 14 points. Adding into the deep shots was a transition lay-up also in the first half. Holy Angels was having a hard time busting into the Fridley zone at times, and Mason was the main scoring option in the first half due to his range and quick release to get a shot off before the closeout could get there. Will likely be a main option for this team next season as a senior.
