I was able to watch two games this past Saturday! CDH took down #3 East Ridge and Mound Westonka handled STMA in a non-conference matchup. Here are the standouts that caught my eye!

East Ridge (50) vs Cretin-Derham Hall (67)

[player_tooltip player_id="850701" first="Tre" last="Holloman"] of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’2” Guard - 2022)

Tre led CDH to a huge conference win on Saturday. The future Michigan State Spartan finished the game with a triple-double, fully controlling the game and putting on a show for the crowd. His passing vision is the best I have ever seen from a high schooler, as he is so unpredictable with what he is going to do when the ball is in hands. Holloman was also hitting his shots, connecting with a corner three and a turnaround fadeaway jumper from the post. Tre and the Raiders are turning it up at the right time and look ready for another deep playoff push.

[player_tooltip player_id="1284104" first="Charlie" last="Bern"] of East Ridge (6’3” Guard - 2024)

In a tough game for East Ridge, Charlie had a breakout performance. He finished the game with 13 points, all of those baskets coming inside the paint. Bern could not be stopped on the glass, converting numerous offensive boards into second chance opportunities for himself. He has a great feel for where the ball is going to bounce off the rim and is strong enough to out-muscle opponents for rebounds. Charlie also possesses fantastic body control that he uses to catch a rebound and put it back up as a layup all in one motion. The sophomore has been a key contributor for the Raptors this season, helping them to a 14-4 record.

Donavhan Cain of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’4” Guard - 2022)

Donavhan’s 18 points were a game-high in the Saturday win over East Ridge. I think that his scoring abilities can often be overlooked because of how athletic he is, but Cain can score from all three levels with efficiency. He had some nice finishes through contact, while also knocking down a couple three-pointers. He capped off the breakout performance with a windmill slam on a fast break, getting everyone out of their seat. CDH has won 8 of their last 10 games behind some 20+ point scoring nights from the 6’4” guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="796948" first="Brandon" last="Melchior"] of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’9” Forward - 2022)

It feels that Brandon has gotten better every time I’ve seen him play this season and that did change on Saturday. He scored in many different ways, showing off his great footwork and using his size to his advantage. Melchior was doing damage in the post, in the pick & roll, and he even connected with a three-pointer in the first half. Another thing that Brandon did that impressed me was running transition and always being ready to receive a pass. He also had some nice offensive rebounds and a thunderous one-hand dunk to cement the win. He finished the game with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

St. Michael-Albertville (47) vs Mound Westonka (56)

[player_tooltip player_id="1144111" first="Jack" last="Eberhart"] of Mound Westonka (6’3” Guard - 2022)

Jack has continued to be one of the top shooters I’ve seen this season! He was lighting it up from deep, finishing Saturday’s win with a game-high 20 points. Eberhart knocked down 5 three-pointers and was almost automatic when getting his feet set. Jack also had some great cross court passes leading to fast break baskets for the White Hawks. Mound Westonka has won 4 of their last 5 games and look like a legit contender in the Wright County Conference!

[player_tooltip player_id="958639" first="Johnny" last="Tennyson"] of STMA (6’4” Guard - 2022)

Johnny was doing it all in STMA’s matchup with Mound Westonka on Saturday. He scored a team-high 17 points and was a very hard player to matchup with due to his size and length. He used his frame to his advantage, shooting over defenders and getting in passing lanes and intercepting passes. Johnny can shoot the ball from just about anywhere and has a very quick release. The Bemidji State signee has been one of Minnesota’s most slept-on prospects for years, averaging double-digits since his sophomore season.

[player_tooltip player_id="796950" first="Jason" last="Spaeth"] of Mound Westonka (6’2” Guard - 2022)

Jason filled up the stat sheet in Saturday’s win over STMA. The senior guard finished the game with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. He provided a spark in the second half, allowing the White Hawks to erase their 7 point halftime deficit. Spaeth is a three-way scorer, being able to attack the rim, score in the mid-range/post, and shoot from deep. He also picked up a couple blocks and steals on the defensive end. Any D2, D3, or NAIA schools looking for a competitive guard that can score at will should get familiar with Jason.
