It’s win or go home tonight.

The regional semifinals are set to kickoff around the state at 7pm. In this article, I will look at prospects in South Florida’s Class 4A and 5A. It should be a great night in these regions for basketball. I think the following players could step up and have big nights to help their schools advance.

[player_tooltip player_id="1060261" first="Guilherme" last="Tesch"] - North Broward Prep

Rematch on! North Broward Prep gets a second chance at Calvary Christian Academy in Class 4A. Last time out, the Eagles fell 51-49 in the district final. North Broward Prep’s leading scorer, 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1060261" first="Guilherme" last="Tesch"], is going to need to a big game tonight. I didn’t think the 6-foot-8 wing played great in his first matchup against the Eagles. Tesch had the looks, but his shot was just not falling. I thought the same when he played St. Andrew’s and Westminster Academy. However, I’ve watched Tesch bury shot after shot and carry an offense in stretches. We’re talking rainbow 3-pointers while putting the ball on the floor and attacking the rim. This is a marquee game where he needs to show off that skill set. Per information, Tesch is averaging 15.9 point while shooting 51 percent from the floor. In addition, he has made 40 3-pointers. The capability is there.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065457" first="Christian" last="Campbell"] - Mater Lakes Academy

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065457" first="Christian" last="Campbell"] is one of three seniors on the Bears’ roster. The 6-foot-3 wing has averaged 11.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game through 24 games played. In the quarterfinal against St. Brendan, Campbell had 10 points and nine rebounds. I think he gives Mater Lakes Academy a nice scoring trio alongside 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055719" first="Christian" last="Reid"] and 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301710" first="Anthony" last="Knowles"]. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709221" first="Michael" last="Bradley"] can also put up points and shoot the basketball. The 6-foot-1 point guard had 22 points against the Sabres. Watch out for Bradley beyond the 3-point line.

[player_tooltip player_id="1376292" first="CALEB" last="ALCINEUS"] - Cardinal Gibbons

I think [player_tooltip player_id="1376292" first="CALEB" last="ALCINEUS"] is a versatile playmaker on both offense and defense. The 6-foot-5 forward is averaging 13.8 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the floor. Moreover, Alcineus has gone 46-of-119 (39 percent) from deep. I think he’s a scoring option from all levels. Alcineus has the size and athleticism to attack the basket and finish. This is also a factor, along with his ball skill, in transition. Compound that with his length to shoot from outside and you have a complete player. On defense, Alcineus has the measurables and raw ability to guard multiple positions. He’s the type of kid that can cause an opponent problems in a state tournament.

Tamarrien Thorpe - Stranahan

2022 Tamarrien Thorpe gives Stranahan a quality shooting option from outside. The 6-foot-2 guard has knocked down 47 3-pointers. Per information, that is nearly half of the Mighty Dragons’ total. Thorpe is Stranahan’s third-leading scorer behind 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="963313" first="Hykeem" last="Williams"] and 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="829402" first="Houston" last="Culpepper"]. Both Culpepper and Williams can power their way to double-doubles. I think Thorpe’s ability to stretch the floor is a nice asset for the Mighty Dragons.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065416" first="Adefemi" last="Akinwole"] - Miami Norland

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065416" first="Adefemi" last="Akinwole"] had six points, five assists and four rebounds in Norland’s quarterfinal victory over Okeechobee. In that same game, both 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055745" first="Marcus" last="Allen"] and 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709246" first="Carl" last="Parrish"] finished in double-figures. Allen also grabbed ten boards while Parrish hit two 3-pointers. I think Akinwole could give Norland a boost as another scoring option at guard.
