On Friday January 21st I attended the 4A Desert Edge Scorpions at the 4A Notre Dame Prep Saints.

Here were a couple standouts from the Freshman game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1371345" first="Hezekiah" last="Millender"] Desert Edge (Pictured)

A long defender who can hit the catch-3. He sees plays developing quickly and will make the pass up the court. He can score the ball driving to the basket after a hesi and score through contact. His defense and passing is what really stood out. He plays the passing lanes about as good as you can and finds teammates on the norm. He must of had over 10 deflections in the game. He also happens to be the starting QB in football, so it will be interesting which route he goes. According to the varsity head coach, he will go straight to varsity next year.

Jace Terry CG 5’10 2025 Notre Dame Prep

A baseball player who didn’t play hoops in over a year because of Covid is starting his journey in basketball again. He is a little lean but long and has a pretty shooting stroke from deep. He can make plays with a decent handle. The more he gets used to handling pressure and just playing more, the better off he will be. He will probably be a JV stud next year but looks like he will sprout up some more, so you never know.

JV game:

Hayden Stebbins CG 5’7 2025 Notre Dame Prep

A scoring combo guard is a clean catch shooter with a quick release. He plays the game with a high IQ and he is a consistent 3pt shooter with a polished floater game.

Varsity game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1123040" first="Anthony" last="Batson Jr"] Notre Dame Prep

An athletic guard who loves driving to the cup. He can hit the catch-3 and he is becoming a very good out of area rebounder on both ends of the court. He drives it well with either hand and he will defend his position. He scored 18 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="996176" first="Bryce" last="Quinet"] Notre Dame Prep

A poised freshman PG is a three level scorer and facilitator. He has the floater game and can drive it with either hand and score. He can hit the catch-3 and is a very good passer. He smartly moves without the ball and cuts to the basket. His IQ is high and he can drive and kick it to a shooting pocket. He changes speeds well and gets the defender off balanced.

[player_tooltip player_id="996764" first="Brennan" last="Peterson"] Notre Dame Prep

A pure PG who has a high feel for the game. He anticipates his teammates and sprays it around. He had over 5 assists in the game and could of actually had close to 10 as he drives and kicks it easy. He also had 12 points as he can hit the catch-3 with a super quick release. He also has the floater game and has a pull-up in his repertoire. I am not sure there is a better freshman 1-2 punch of guards in the class with him and [player_tooltip player_id="996176" first="Bryce" last="Quinet"]. Both can shoot, pass, dribble and play the game from the neck up.

[player_tooltip player_id="998974" first="Brandon" last="Nacario"] Notre Dame Prep

The shooter of the team has range and a quick release. He keeps moving without the ball to relocate to an open spot and the Grinell commit will take charges. He is another smart guard for the Saints.

[player_tooltip player_id="937189" first="Cuthbert" last="Tambatamba"] Desert Edge

A pure PG who sees the court well and will slither a pass in quickly to a teammate. He is a defensive minded player who will collects steals and block shots on opposing guards. He is slowly improving his 3pt shooting and he will get to the rim with a burst and thicker build.

[player_tooltip player_id="937185" first="Joven" last="Allen"] Desert Edge

A super strong forward with a thick build/frame. He is a man inside the paint using his girth and skill. He scores on put backs and layups. He is a sneaky good passer and plays with a motor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1306004" first="Dominick" last="Tarrant"] Desert Edge

A sturdy framed forward has a clip from deep. The lefty his thicker body to post up inside and will score it through contact. He has good body control and plays with toughness.

Isaiah Beckford F 6’3 2023 Desert Edge

A stocky long armed forward who is tough in the paint. He likes getting downhill and almost seeks the contact. He rebounds in his area and brings his hard hat.

Amir Hunter PG 5’10 2023 Desert Edge

A very quick undersized PG has good court vision and speed. He can hit the 3pt shot and get to the rim with ball fakes and his natural speed. He is quick on the ball defensively and had a good second half.
