has been one of the best guards on the season as he is a true point guard that takes care of the ball, gets everyone involved and seems to step up in these big games. He was the best player on the floor in their 2nd round matchup and stacked the box score. Williams finished with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the game and that was while knocking down both 3-pointers that he took in the game. He was super efficient and when he goes off like this the Wolverines are as dangerous as any team in the state.
Hanif stepped up in his first playoff game where he was the main guy and he looked comfortable. He attacked the pain and got to the FT line, scored with ease and also stepped up defensively which helped the Raiders do what they do best — win. Rangeview won by only three points as their PG got 17 points and had three steals. He is an underclassman that will be talked about often because he makes the right plays, turns defense to offense and leads the team when they need it. Rangeview will need him to continue being aggressive to open things up for the team.
Gavin is a guard that sees plays before they happen and takes good care of the ball. He is a pass-first PG that has a great temperature of what the team needs from him and in their second-round matchup he understood that he had to score and did that. He had 15 points, got to his spots, attacked the rim and finished 4/4 from the FT line and also knocked down a 3-pointer as well. The Jaguars will need him to score and take care of the ball as I expect their next game to be a slow-paced low scoring game that every possession matters. Expect him to have another big game.
King is a player that has not been discussed enough and that is because of the great guard play is at Eaglecrest. They have a group of guards that get after it, swarm defensively and turn defense to offense. They do not rely heavily on their best player and we see that in games like this where King takes over. He provided energy to the team and also a big scoring option as he used his speed and athleticism to score in bunches. The freshman guard knows what his role is and stepped up and showed that he cannot be contained. He had 18 points in their win over Highlands Ranch and will be a player that has to continue to play well if they want to continue to win games.
Gamble was the MVP of the 2nd round of the playoffs and was arguably the player of the week. He went off! Gamble finished with 33 points and that was on a efficient 10-14 from the field. He also went 3-4 from deep, and 10-16 FT line and this was a breakout game where he wanted to remind everyone that he is here. This was a career-high game from him by a lot and this is by a player known for his defense. Mountain Vista goes as he allows them.
Tanner Braketa — Ralston Valley
Braketa has quietly been one of the most consistent underclassmen in the entire state this year as the 6’1 guard is averaging 19.6 points a game and with the season on the line, he shined again. Braketa put up 25 points in their blowout win over Fountain Fort Carson and he would not be denied. He did not see a shot he didn’t like and hit 4 3-pointers and ultra-aggressive. He tried to get to the FT line and takes over in this game. He takes advantage of mismatches and is an exciting player to watch moving forward.
