Top guards and wings from Columbus Play By Play

In this article:
The Columbus Play By Play Classic brought some talented teams to Ohio Dominican University and gave fans an opportunity to see some talented athletes. In this article, I’ll be breaking down the top guard and wing performers from the event.
Darryn Peterson, 6’5 PG CVCA 2025: Peterson is potentially the best prospect in Ohio regardless of class and proved it on Saturday with a filthy performance against Harvest Prep. Peterson is crazy advanced for a freshman with his buckets all coming against tough defense. Peterson can use both hands proficiently and plays with great pace. Peterson has a great pull-up jumper and had multiple shots roll off the rim and in throughout the game. With his size, Peterson is also able to see over the defense to make passes to his teammates. Put it simply, Peterson is a special prospect who will likely become a five star when it’s all said and done. Ohio State Head Coach Chris Holtman was there to watch Peterson play.

, 6’1 CG Harvest Prep 2024: Abrams is one of many talented guards on Harvest Prep and had an impressive performance in a victory over CVCA. Abrams made some shots from the outside and looked to create for himself. I’m not sure if Abrams is more of a point or shooting guard, but he’ll have chances to prove his play-making capabilities next season after some key players graduate.

, 5’11 SG Hilliard Bradley 2024: Bischoff seems to always step up to the challenge whenever I watch Hilliard Bradley as the Sophomore is becoming one of the most productive underclassmen in central Ohio. Bischoff plays his role well, which is to run off screens and shoot 3-pointers while playing tough defense. He’s pretty limited with the ball in his hands, but Bradley does a good job of minimizing his weaknesses and allowing him to play to his strengths.

, 5’10 PG Gahanna 2022: I’ve now seen Gahanna five times this season and Jones played the best game I’ve seen of him this season against Buchtel in a big victory for the Lions. Jones is a player that’s been discussed thoroughly on this website, but he was knocking down a higher percentage of his jumpers and finding teammates for easy buckets more often in this game than some other ones this season.

and Pickerington Central. While Royal’s Tigers got the win, I thought Griffith was the best player on the court. Griffith had some tough mid-range shots off the bounce and was hounded by a variety of Pickerington Central athletes. When Griffith is making shots, he’s one of the most dangerous players to guard in the state. If Griffith can continue this type of shot-making and aggressiveness, his stock is going to remain high among high major suitors.

, 5’10 PG Pickerington Central 2024: Turner played the best game that I’d seen from him this season by making open shots and finding his teammates in good positions against the Taft defense. With the speed of the game at such a high pace, Turner stayed cool and picked his spots well to contribute to the big win for Pickerington Central. Turner is one of many talented guards in central Ohio’s 2024 class.
