Three Up
Kenyon-Wanamingo (7-2). Playing great team defense, the Knights are a contender and they’ve completely surprised many with seven wins in nine games after winning nine games total last season. Laden Nerison Laden Nerison 6'3" | PG Kenyon-Wanamingo | 2022 MN is likely one of the best seniors in the state that only teams in his league now plus 6’9 200 pound Paul Kortsch is starting to emerge and really help this team. They gave Goodhue a run and crushed Lyle/Austin Pacelli.
BOLD (5-2). BOLD has quickly bounced back to where we are used to them being and it’s been the balanced attack of three developed upperclassmen that have led the way. Cole Visser, Max Marks and Ryan King have all taken their game to a higher level. They’ve earned some good wins over Mayer Lutheran, Melrose, and some others.
Lakeview (9-0). The junior dominant Lakers led by one of the best outstate juniors in Minnesota ( Nathan Fenske Nathan Fenske 6'2" | SG Lakeview | 2023 State MN ) have started the year 9-0 and have big dreams in front of them. Lakeview is winning games by an average score of 74 to 46 and Fenske has been a Class A All State level player this year.
Three Down
Randolph (2-6). This is a team that returned two all league players, has great size for Class A, and had some good experience back from a 12-7 team. Their struggle to defend has been a surprise. I have to imagine there have been some injuries but I’m not finding much for information in box scores or reports to clarify.
New Ulm Cathedral (1-6). The Greyhounds are still working to mix the right guard play with what they have up front each game to be the team they were expected to be. This program has been consistently good year to year but so far this season it’s been a struggle.
Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (1-4). With a solid senior core returning from a 13-7 team, we thought the Coyotes would be a section contender. However, their defense is giving up a section worst 75 points a game as they’ve struggled to start the season.
