As a citizen of Nebraska and a lifetime student of the game of basketball, I can honestly say I’m proud of all the teams/players who compete in "The Good Life" state! The 60th Annual Metro Holiday Basketball Tournament concluded the evening of December 31st, crowning the Omaha Westside Warriors the tournament champions of the Omaha Metro Conference.

After a thrilling two days of tournament play, the final matchup for the title would be between the Bellevue West Thunderbirds and the Westside Warriors. It would be a fairly close match-up between the two teams. The 3rd quarter was the determining factor in Omaha Westside’s 76-68 victory, outscoring the Thunderbirds 28 to 20 in the third period. Bellevue West guard [player_tooltip player_id="1013209" first="Josiah" last="Dotzler"] (Game High 24 points) and the Thunderbirds put up one heck of a battle but would be shot down. [player_tooltip player_id="1013207" first="Tate" last="Odvody"] (Westside Warriors) had the most important performance. Odvody is a player who simply understands how to play the game when to swing the ball, and the right moment to slash to the basket. [player_tooltip player_id="890571" first="Chandler" last="Meeks"] played solid. Meeks did all the right things and played with accuracy all across the board. The Warriors look to push forward to the state finals.

Omaha Benson Bunnies

[player_tooltip player_id="890610" first="Antone" last="McNair"] Scored 14 points for Omaha Benson in the 9 point loss to the Patriots. Averaging 19 points per game this season. He also has a 3.9-grade point average and has a great attitude. McNair is currently in the weight room and transitioning into a point guard for the next level. "Tiger" has a crafty offensive attack and can score in bunches.

Cortez Gonzalaus also contributed 14 points. Cortez is a 6’4" left-handed forward that can shoot. He is really starting to catch a smooth rhythm. I suggest keeping an eye on Gonzalaus.
