Week 2 coverage continues with a look at the best SGs and CGs I watched during the week. Several of these guys showed versatility beyond being shooters which is why they’re on this list. See who made this list below.

[player_tooltip player_id="1285278" first="Chase" last="Grevey"] (2023) Springboro

Grevey excelled against Fairmont on a night when Springboro was down two starting guards. The lefty is knockdown shooter that can hit shots either off the ball or pullup situations. Grevey has the confidence to get shots up with pressure or use his dribble to create space. I would like to see him evolve his game beyond just perimeter shooting as I felt he was too narrowed in as solely a shooting threat.

[player_tooltip player_id="1195103" first="Luke" last="Garrett"] (2022) Eastern Brown

Garrett played like a scholarship athlete in my opinion in a matchup with Fairland. The Concord commit was impactful on both ends of the floor. Great speed moving laterally and defended on-ball well especially against Fairland’s guard play. I’ve seen Garrett play before and know he can be a consistent outside shooting threat. Shots weren’t falling in the Fairland game, but he had the confidence to keep shooting even on a night they weren’t connecting.

[player_tooltip player_id="976075" first="Bede" last="Lori"] (2023) Caldwell

Lori was the best shooter on this list and was on full display against Wellington School. The junior guard has an unorthodox shot, but it falls and he was connecting often against the Jaguars. Lori is the primary ball-handler for Caldwell but clearly is more of a 2G at the collegiate level. Very polished game and plays the game the right way. Lori could be a contender for District POY in Division IV as his scoring potential and output is tough to compare or matchup against.

Alex Semenov (2023) Andrews Osborne

Semenov has great awareness on the floor and is a hidden gem in my eyes in Northeast Ohio. The 6-foot-2 junior has the right attitutude and is a team-first guy. Active defender with good movements and intensity. High motor athlete. Semenov is capable of getting shots up or can move the ball as needed. His unselfishness is most impressive.

[player_tooltip player_id="867944" first="Caleb" last="Maurer"] (2023) Fort Loramie

Maurer had a strong game against SCAL rival Anna last Friday and led a balanced offense for the Redskins. Maurer is one of the better ball-handlers I’ve seen in the SCAL and can be a setup guy or scorer. Sets himself up for scoring opportunities or gets the ball to his multiple teammates. Capped off the win with a transition dunk for Loramie.

Wilson Suggs (2023) Tri-Village

Suggs sometimes can be forgotten due to having senior [player_tooltip player_id="967174" first="Layne" last="Sarver"] be the focal point for the Patriots offense. Suggs however stepped up against Meadowdale and showed off his quickness off the bounce. Capitalized off Iso opportunities when open. Good ball-handler and showed glimpses of being a possible PG option.
