Last night Max was at the Rosemount versus Jefferson game and graced us with a game video breaking down the contest. Here is The Rundown from that game/video (make sure to get a look at the video which is linked at the bottom of the page).

[player_tooltip player_id="1220381" first="Anish" last="Ramlall"] of Rosemount had a 16U All State year with WOTN in the spring/summer and that certainly looks to have carried over to the winter season. Love his demeanor as the main ball handler for the Irish. The biggest thing I took from this game is Ramlall’s ability to use screens to his advantage without the ball. This junior might be getting his PHD in screen usage. Love how he cuts off the screens to go to the rim to be a receiving threat, and I especially love how quickly he gets his feet set to shoot as his man is trying to come off that screen and get to position. With or without the ball Anish was making shots moving off screens. Also had a key three and transition assist beating pressure down the stretch.

I think Jefferson is going to be a bit better than people expected and that has a lot to do with their senior group providing depth. Cashuan Scott-Kobold is a 6’3 low post player that really knows how to use his frame. Love his depth of position of low block touches, he sets good screens clearing space, Cash made a couple face up baskets after moving off that screen, and I feel like he will be an asset all year. [player_tooltip player_id="1288780" first="Samir" last="jones"] impressed me at times defensively. There’s a competitive fight to him that will allow him to defend the top option on other teams. And captain [player_tooltip player_id="958754" first="Hayden" last="Holland"] did a lot more than I think some expected. The 6’0 guard is a shooting weapon that hit double figures with a combination of perimeter jumpers, transition opportunity, and some well timed deeper finishes moving with the Jefferson motion.

Back to Rosemount, another guy that we noticed in the off-season was Sean Mohabir, about a 6’1/6’2 wing that is an excellent compliment to Ramlall and [player_tooltip player_id="796947" first="Caleb" last="Siwek"]. Mohabir does a lot of the active off ball movement stuff that may not be individual creative on the ball, but it certainly creates scoring opportunity for his team off the ball. And defenders have to be alert to what he is doing or he’s going to score four or five times like he did against Jefferson.

Of course we have to talk about Siwek, the UMD committed shooting guard that scored a game high 21. Not an elite game by his standards, but a quality game nonetheless. I feel like Caleb has done an outstanding job of adding to his point totals by making the right reads as a rim scorer. We’ve seen him get out in transition with a lot more success. Siwek is doing a great job of attacking over contesting defenders or darting to the rim on a reversal or quick wing entry when he recognizes an angle that the defense is not able to cover. He’s always a deadly shooter but I think you can label him more as a scorer right now than you would shooter meaning he is putting up totals in multiple ways.

Good to see [player_tooltip player_id="1151197" first="Daniel" last="Freitag"] back on the court after his collarbone injury from the football season. There is a special next level quality to his game that continues to bud. I think we can go basketball in bullet points to give you six items from this game that I think continue to say "national level recruit" when Prep Hoops introduces our national 2024s in January:

The step back jumper off the dribble separation got the fans excited as that’s modern day highlights. What I liked about the play is... this is a great example of how Daniel has worked to build his dribble separation game and get comfortable getting into a balanced, comfortable shot after the initial move.

We saw something similar at the foul line when Daniel used the in and out crossover to go to a dribble left into a pull-up make.

There is a special athleticism to Daniel that was best shown on the timed putback he had on the backside of the rim. Daniel looked to have timed the putback but the ball had an extra bounce. Off balance a bit, Daniel caught to his left and still finished off the glass despite the awkward angle and him coming down for his jump.

Another example was the reverse lay-up late in the game. He went baseline so fast that the defense simply couldn’t recover to at the other side of the rim.

Daniel spent part of the game bringing the ball up the floor, another part of his versatile game.

In the second half it was Freitag that took the challenge of defending Siwek.
