Carmel Hands Sectional 8 Rival, Fishers, Their First Loss

Carmel came into this game with a lot more energy on their home floor than they had at Brownsburg last Saturday when they fell to Homestead to drop to 2-2 on the season. [player_tooltip player_id="769662" first="Peter" last="Suder"] set the tone early by scoring the first 7 points of the game in the first minute and a half, but Fishers just kept continuing to battle. In the second half, a 9-2 run to open the half gave Fishers its first (and only) lead of the game, as [player_tooltip player_id="769662" first="Peter" last="Suder"] struck again with 7 straight points to end the third quarter. From the point that Fishers took the lead at 28-27, Pete Suder scored or assisted on 15 straight points for Carmel to put them on top. Suder would end with 18 points in the 44-39 win. [player_tooltip player_id="1042491" first="Sam" last="Orme"] added 9 points and 5 rebounds, and [player_tooltip player_id="769678" first="Charlie" last="Williams"] added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. For Fishers, Jeffery Simmons kept the Tigers in the game with 19 points and 4 rebounds. [player_tooltip player_id="1297052" first="Jalen" last="Haralson"] would add 9 points and 5 boards, and [player_tooltip player_id="870272" first="Bryce" last="Williams"] added 8 points.

Purdue Commits, Loyer and Smith, Battle to the Buzzer in Southport

In the final game of the Forum Tipoff Classic, Homestead and Westfield battled it out in Southport. However, the storyline was not the teams, it was [player_tooltip player_id="870222" first="Braden" last="Smith"] vs. [player_tooltip player_id="1063961" first="Fletcher" last="Loyer"] in the battle of Purdue’s 2022 commits. [player_tooltip player_id="1158186" first="Braden" last="Smith"] did his part in keeping Westfield in the game, as he was lights out from beyond the arc. [player_tooltip player_id="1063961" first="Fletcher" last="Loyer"] struggled in the first half, but being the natural scorer that he is, he still got his as he would finish with 22. The big difference-maker for Homestead in this one was the monster performance by [player_tooltip player_id="870214" first="Andrew" last="Leeper"] inside as he would finish with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Homestead would hold on to a 58-55 victory over Westfield despite the 30 point performance from Smith. Watch out for both Smith and Loyer as both of them will be in the Mr. Basketball conversation all season.

In a battle between the #2 teams in Indiana and Kentucky, Cathedral was able to take down Covington Catholic in the Forum Tipoff Classic at Southport. Cathedral came out of the game quick with lights out shooting from beyond the arc, and they cruised to a 47-33 halftime lead thanks to their 10 first-half threes. In the second half, Covington Catholic tried hard to battle back, but Cathedral seemed to have an answer for everything that came their way. [player_tooltip player_id="870212" first="Tayshawn" last="Comer"] led the way with 31 points for the Irish. [player_tooltip player_id="1063971" first="Jaxon" last="Edwards"] added 16 and [player_tooltip player_id="868219" first="Xavier" last="Booker"] scored 12. For Covington Catholic, Kascyl McGillis led with 24 points.
