It was a memorial set of games to honor the memory of Uniondale basketball star Jo Jo Wright who was tragically killed in an automobile accident last year. His jersey number #10 was retired and 10 teams were invited to participate. Here are some players who shined at this event. Some players who also excelled have been in our previous reports so they will be in next weeks Nassau News report. These players below are all newcomers to Prep Hoops .
Aidan Driscoll 6”0 2022 Floral Park
Aidan has the ability not only to handle the ball but make very nice passes on the break or out of half court sets. He had a touch pass and a bounce pass in transition which led to easy baskets. Possesses a nice mid range game and can also score in a variety of ways around the rim.
Robert Tansey 6”0 2022 Mephan
A quick wing with a good handle. Sees the floor well. Displayed a nice pull up jumper which he uses on the break or off the bounce.
Josh Garelle. 6”3. 2023 South Side
Brought energy to the floor. An active defender who makes things happen when he is on the court. Really good vision. Capable of hitting the three and also scoring on the break.
Robert Pericolosi. 6”3. 2023. South Side
Has good length and uses it to defend. Excellent awareness and vision. Smart player finds the open spots and cuts hard. Can shoot the three, drive or hit the pull up jumper. Made a nice catch in the open floor and finished through contact.
Judah Bontemps 5”4. 8th Grader. Uniondale
The lightning quick small young guard is getting his feet wet early and is responding. Head up sees the floor really well. Confident player with the ball in his hands. Does not back down. Shoots the three and can get into the lane and feed teammates. Very bright future for this eight grader.
Kiem Houchen 6”4. 2022. Uniondale
Long and athletic. Showed the ability to score inside but also step out and drill the three. Has shot blocking ability and can score inside of off putbacks. Can get to the rim off the bounce.
Chris Zaveckas. 5”10. 2022. Calhoun
Displayed unlimited range. Can handle the ball with either hand. Excellent court vision. Gets into the lane off the deck and showed a nice floater but also took it hard to the basket. Very good in transition. A tough scrappy talented guard.
Matthew Kalfas. 5”10. 2023. Calhoun
Crafty and tough lefty guard. Protects the ball with a low strong handle. Initiates contact and finishes. Shoots the open three really well. Possesses a nice shot fake which he used one time to pass to a open teammate and later to get off a pull up jumper. Calhoun is in very good shape with these two leading the way.
