The National Hoopfest returned after a year hiatus at DeMatha High School in Maryland, bringing some of the top talent from around the DMV and the country together for one of the top events in the country. There were teams from the DMV as well as PA, WV, OH, AZ, NY and NJ in attendance.

Here’s a look at part one of the standouts from teams outside of the DMV.

Trey Thomas | 6’3” CG | Spire (OH) 2022

Thomas came back to the DMV with his Spire team and despite a loss to National Christian he put on a show that shows why he’s one of the top available guards in the country. The strong 6’3” guard can play both backcourt positions, he made plays on both ends of the floor and he scored it in bunches from multiple levels off the bounce. He finished with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in their loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="809598" first="Roderick" last="Coffee"] III | 6’4” WG | Spire (OH) 2022

Coffee was another bright spot for Spire and is a player division one schools should take a look at who are looking for a shooter with good size. He has a strong frame and good height for his position, he has excellent form and good consistency from deep and he’s no liability on the defensive end as he can body up and gets his hands on passes for deflections. He finished with 20 points hitting 4 three-pointers and grabbed 4 rebounds in their loss.

[player_tooltip player_id="810375" first="Seth" last="Hubbard"] | 6’2” PG | Huntington Prep (WV) 2022

While Hubbard struggled in their first game, a loss to St. Frances, he really brought it in their win over Bishop O’Connell and showed he’s one of the top overall available PGs on the east coast. He controlled the game with his ability to handle pressure and get them into sets, he’s smooth off the bounce and can create plays for himself and others and he has a great overall skill set on both ends of the floor. He was dominant in their win, going for 23 points and shooting 5-for-10 from deep, dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="1052154" first="Dok" last="Muordar"] | 6’11” C | Huntington Prep (WV) 2022

It was my first time seeing Muordar live, and I came away very impressed and thinking if I was a division one school in need of a big man this is the guy I would want to play for me. He’s pushing 7 feet and is mobile and plays with a good motor, he is a work horse who finishes everything in the paint and he’s a big time rebounder and rim protector as well. In their win over O’Connell, he finished 7-for-7 from the field with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id="1129814" first="Trentyn" last="Flowers"] | 6’7” F | Huntington Prep (WV) 2024

One of the top sophomores in the country, Flowers wasted no time showing his immense talent and versatility that makes him so highly coveted. The 6’7” forward is able to play multiple positions for his team, he can score the ball in a variety of ways from all over the floor, he produces across the board and he still has a lot of room to get better too. He averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds in their two games.

[player_tooltip player_id="1168771" first="Nait" last="George"] | 6’2” WG | Dream City (AZ) 2023

Dream City wasn’t able to come away with a win in their trip to DC, but they did show they have some very talented young players including George who was one of the top shooters in the event. The 6’2” guard moves well off the ball, can create shots on the ball and he has deep race and good form. He finished with 14 points and 5 assists in their loss to National Christian, going 4-for-6 from deep.

Mathiang Makur | 6’7” WF | Dream City (AZ) 2023

Yes, there’s yet another Makur and he’s another athletic and skilled forward with good size, even if he’s not as tall as some of the others who have come through. The 6’7” wing is very bouncy when he gets downhill, he’s shifty off the bounce and he can score it from multiple levels. He finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds against NCA.

[player_tooltip player_id="1237854" first="Jaion" last="Pitt"] | 6’6” F | Dream City (AZ) 2025

Pitt is one of a number of freshman standouts for Dream City, and he has a chance to be a national level prospect moving forward. The 6’6” forward is a versatile and athletic forward with a good motor and good frame, he plays hard on both ends of the floor and he has good versatility on the offensive end. He finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds in their game against NCA and was even better in their first game against Rock Creek Christian.
