MONONA -- Monroe (4-0) remained unbeaten with a 59-54 road win at Monona Grove (2-2) on Tuesday...

Johnny Bittner - 2023 - G - Monona Grove

Bittner made a lot of timely buckets for the Silver Eagles. Thought the junior guard carried Monona Grove at times and was a key part of their comeback. Bittner got a lot of high percentage looks at the rim. Breaking down the defense, Bittner had some crafty dribble drives to the rim. He did a great job of seeking out contact, going into the chest of defenders, and finishing off-balance if needed. Also liked that Bittner doesn't waste a lot of dribbles. Immediately off the catch, he's looking to hit gaps and get downhill. In isolation, Bittner utilized change of pace well and showed off a very quick first step to the bucket, which often left defenders in the dust.

George Bruwicki - 2023 - SG - Monroe

If the Cheesemakers are going to make a deep run in March, they're going to need more nights like this from Bruwicki. Their stars get most of their shots from their top two leading scorers, but Bruwicki contributed seven points and also made a handful of hustle plays that jumped out on Tuesday. Bruwicki also had two blocks, including a really nice play in transition where Monroe had missed a layup that led to what looked like an easy run-out for the Silver Eagles. The Cheesemakers had a lot of unsung heroes on last season's squad, guys that may not have always scored a lot of points, but did the little things that made a big difference. Bruwicki looks like someone that can fill that void going forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="1134927" first="Jordan" last="Hibner"] - 2022 - SG - Monona Grove

Off to a huge start in his senior season, Hibner entered Tuesday averaging 24.2 points per game. While he scored 15 in Tuesday's loss, the senior guard did show a lot of good things. Facing one of the better teams on MG's schedule, Hibner did a great job of feeling the defense and getting rid of the ball when help-side defenders started to swarm. Hibner just wasn't going to be able to get all the way to the rim much. He was fundamentally sound against double teams, picking up his dribble, surveying the floor, and not panicking with the basketball. A strong guard who can serve as an extra ball handler, Hibner works his way into high percentage areas and has some of the best shot quality in the Madison area. Hibner has some deceptive athleticism and the tools to score in a variety of different ways/areas on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="801151" first="Carson" last="Leuzinger"] - 2022 - G - Monroe

Leuzinger absolutely took over during a key stretch in the second half as Monroe jumped out to a double-digit lead in what was otherwise a very contested game throughout. The lefty was kept in check for most of the first half and a good chunk of the second, but then a switch just flipped and Leuzinger went into attack mode. The senior guard finished with 21 points, including 14 after halftime. Leuzinger is a deadly shooter off the dribble and so difficult to contain with his change of pace dribbling. He'll also effectively change the height of his dribbles, even against tight defense, to set up his pull-up game by getting a defender leaning one way. Despite his size (5-11), Leuzinger really knows how to score in-close, getting defenders off the ground with shot fakes or able to get near the basket, come to a jump stop, and score fading away from the rim. With the clock ticking on his senior season, you can see a greater sense of urgency on the defensive end as well. Leuzinger made a number of plays that resulted in takeaways and also got on the ground to scrap for loose balls a few times as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="801147" first="J.T." last="Seagreaves"] - 2022 - F - Monroe

Seagreaves is headed to play football at Wisconsin, but had a number of Division 2 scholarship offers on the hardwood. The senior forward scored a game-high 25 points, including a huge triple with just over two minutes remaining to turn back a strong push from Monona Grove. Seagreaves shot the ball well from the outside and mixed in dribble drives to the rim, post touches, anyway he could take advantage of a matchup. The 6-foot-6 forward is a bruising, athletic player that can play either forward spot effectively. He pretty much owned the glass Tuesday night as well, giving the Silver Eagles no second-chance opportunities. An explosive leaper who blocks shots and plays above the rim, that's going to translate well to the gridiron when high-pointing the football between defenders.
